I understand that the fuel pickup in the top of the tank is different for a carb version of the 5.0. Is this true? Also, the factory indicated they send a thicker 3/8 fuel pipe with a carb version. Any comments? Do I need the factory 1985 or earlier pickup?

3/8" is the standard for a carbed setup. A coil of 3/8" aluminum fuel line is about $20.00 and will work fine.
You can run an inline electric fuel pump, or the regular fuel pump off the cam eccentric with the proper timing cover.
The in-tank pickup can be had from several sources and they run around $100.00. I think Summit has one and so does Jegs. One of the forum vendors probably sells it too.

2-savage..

EFI pickups have the pump in them. I took out the entire unit, cut out the pump, and added 3/8 line with the screen on it to replace the length I lost with removal of the pump. This is a common fix for potato goers..

I have the FFR supplied 3/8 line but replaces it with Stainless steel braided line from Earls/Summit.. easier to run and no rust down the line..

For a carb set up the required PSI for the fuel is less than 10psi. I could not see spending a lot of money on an electric pump, then special regulator just to take the pressure down..

Get a good mechanical pump and have at it unless your going supercharged then your going to need the electric pump to boost pressure as you boost the engine..

good luck

Hi,
I have a nice fuel pick up with -8 fitting. I also have the fuel cell or stock tank, sender, vent & grommets. Lines, filter and pump either electric or mechanical. Call me if you need pictures.
Thanks,
