How long should the diff cover set up before I put in the diff lube? And when can I drive it?Also is Mobil 1 75W-90 synthetic gear lubricant the correct fluid for a 87'8.8 traction/loc?

I use black or gray RTV, and usually let it sit overnight after I torque the cover down, before adding the lube. If the weather is cold, you may want it to set a little longer. Mobil 1 75W90 is a good lube for a 8.8 trac lock.

GM uses their brand of sealer "GMS" or General motors sealant, this stuff is the bomb when it comes to differential gaskets! word to the wise though, if you have to remove the cover later, it's gonna be a royal PITA!!! But, no leaks!
HTH,
Ben

p.s. that stuff isn't cheap either, I think $14.00 a tube!!! well worth it though!
GM had so many recalls or warranty repairs for lube leaks, they designed this stuff to remedy the problem

I used Permatex Ultra Blue silicon on my Mustang axle cover 15 years ago. Hasn't leaked yet. Price: ~ $4. Comes off easily if you want it to.
