My searchs find 2 general layouts for instruments. The pre cut dash from FFR is the street style. There is a competition style with the tach to the right and a bit above the wheel center and the speedo further right almost in the center of the dash. I kind of like the competition type of layout and would like to hear form those of you who have it regarding how you like or dislike it, drivability etc. I have a blank dash and can go either way.
Thanks

Due to a request from Meat, I had to take down the pic of the dash layout. He claimed copyrights on it and asked me to take it off.

Below is a layout of three types of Cobras from the UK Cobra Club. Although the layouts are for rhd you get a good idea of what you have to do.

Love the layout but wonder how is it for driving with the speedo over to the side that far?

I have the comp layout with the speedo in the center and found it very easy to get used to. It really doesn't take much to glance at the speedo.

Here's a rough pic of mine. 5,500 miles on it in three months, love the setup, and am glad I used 5" tach and speedo. My old car had the traditional street-layout dash. I like this one better. Don't forget, our cars aren't very big inside...the speedo is still pretty darn close even set in the center!

Good luck!

I did the same as John and love it. 5" Classic gauges SC style. No problem glancing at the speedo.

I had the gauges set in the "comp" configuration on #1341 and loved it that way.

With the comp set up, you can SEE all of the gauges and you can mount your steering wheel so it sits "straight".

The street set up, makes it a PITA to see the speedo, because the steering is in the way. Alot of guys mount their steering wheel "crooked" to help with thisa, but that would drive me nuts!

Who looks at the speedometer? Actually it's not inconvenient to look at but I don't look at it much. I know from my rpm's just how fast I'm going.

I like my boost guage right in front of my eyes. The tack is easy to read at the vital range. The upper left guage is the fuel pressure guage. All mechanical(except fuel level and volts, ofcourse). I also made a shift light which is that large white LED lense near my boost guage. For lights, I prefer the smaller leds. The triangular group is moved left more than in most cars. I keep all my switches under the dash. I know where they are.

Here is a picture of a speedometer / tach in middle of dash.

Reasoning for Roscoe: I wanted the two most important guages in front of me. oil pressure and water temperature. Also I noticed that putting the big tach and speedometer behind the steering wheel always partially obstructs them. Why when you can put them in view? The other non critical guages go to the right.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
