All the items this guy has bought have been in Australia or NZ. I bet dollars to donuts that if you try and get info on the car, it is in a "ebay warehouse". And you can buy it for cheap because he is out of the country and it is listed for a friend, or there are some customs problems. So he just wants to move the car. I say scam.

Bill's right.. I have sent a number of auction links to safeharbor and seen them shut down later. What bothers me is that apparently ebay is doing nothing pro-active in terms of protecting it's users from these scam artists. :mad:

Randy,

Long ago (as early as 1998) there were email scams going around that looked like legit communications from Ebay asking to verify your account information and passwords. Many people fell for these spoofed web pages, and gladly gave up their account user identification. For years now, these scammers have been hoarding this information, perhaps selling/trading it on the black market, just waiting for the day they could use it to perpetuate their scams...........Well, over the past year or so, that is exactly what has been happeneing....These scammers have finally decided to use this information to their advantage, even to the point of hijacking a sellers account/auction right after it ended (newest scam is the "confirmation" emails from Ebay that direct you to pay for a legit sellers auction in the scammers account) thereby diverting funds from what was a legitimate auction, to a non legitimate bank account. Think about how many 1,000's or 100,000's of people fell for this original scam from Ebay or paypal, or both.........Now think about the 1,000's of people falling for the scam auctions.....I just stopped my brother-in-law (a man with a PHD no less) from sending $4,500 to Italy for a "new $9,000 quad, including shipping"...........It's scary to think that these people are actually able to scam people, but it's happening every day...........

My simple advice, let the buyer beware...........

I could have sworn I saw these pictures on Ebay some time back. The car was listed as an original and was priced accordingly. I wonder if someone just swiped those pics and created a false auction.

Anyone else remember that auction?

I have about 4 photos in my archive of pictures to use as a reference for interior details that are duplicates of the series shown in the add you are discussing. I saved the photos from the net about a year ago. Smells like a scam to me. Don't buy an item as expensive as that until you have seen it and the paperwork first, IMHO.

Here's the response to the email I sent him asking if the price was a mistake. This is pure scam.

Hello,
Before any bidding takes place I want to introduce myself:
my name is John Thayer and my location is Germany,Berlin.
I want to tell you that I am a collector car dealer in Germany
and I had listed on eBay 1 special built car:

-1966 Shelby Cobra 427-4600 $

Condition
=========
The car that you are interested in is in very good condition.Both
exterior and interior are in excellent condition.
This is a good example of a super driver type car.
There are no mechanical defects because the car was inspected.
It is a street legal car and it will pass smog requirements in
every state of USA.

Payment:
=======
The payment must be done using a money order service.
I prefer money order(westernunion wire transfer) because
in this way i will ship the car in the same
day you make the payment and you can have the
car infront of your door very fast.You will have to pay upfront
50 % of the total price of the car(2300 $US).The rest of the
money will be paid at the delivery of the car.There is a 10
days inspection period in witch you will have to pay the rest of the money.

Shipping:
========
Shipping is free and it will be done via Lufthansa Air Cargo and you will
receive the car in 48 hours.

Important !!! :
=============
The funds will be fully refundable if for any reason you do not accept the car
or if the car has scratches, hidden defects, or it is not as advertised.
I will even pay for the shipping back to my location if you reject the car but
since works and looks perfectly I think it would not get to this.
If you agree with these terms,let me know and I will be more than glad to start
to complete the transaction with you.

I will be waiting for your next mail.
Kind regards!
