coyote drone zone?

Interesting question. I always thought "drone" had more to do with the mufflers and the resonance off the interior and roof (making the car like an echo chamber or something). I wouldn't even think to consider "drone" in an open topped roadster, so I'll be interested to hear if anyone has this. Unless you're going to run Bassani side pipes?! ;-)

I agree with Mike....it comes from your interior acting like a speaker cabinet. When I had my Camaro, the drone was bad, but putting an H pipe after the collectors made it go away. That's not really an option on these cars.

Gearing wise, I'd probably want to look at the ratio and make sure your RPM is where you want it in 5th at your typical highway speeds. On my car, I'm just over 2000 rpms in 5th at 70mph, so I don't use that gear a lot. I would use it more if I was cruising at around 2400rpms (the engine doesn't chug so bad at that rpm).

Did you have Flowmasters on your Mustang? Well known issue with 2 chamber FM at approx 2000 rpm. The FFR side pipes don't seem to have a 'drone zone' or resonance problem, however they are a little restrictive. Don't know about the other types of side pipes available from forum vendors.

Yes, flowmasters. The drone is pretty loud even with an open top in the'stang. Leaning toward 3.73s to stay above 2k on the highway.

I'm pretty sure the drone is from the muffler design, not the motor. I really don't think there's a "drone" with side-pipes. I've never heard it referred to on this message board, but it's VERY common on Mustang message boards. Only real difference between our cars is the exhaust systems. But again, I'm interested to see if anyone else has that complaint. I stand ready to eat crow (if I have to!).

I do get a drone at 2000 in the roadster. - J pipes - It is a lot better at 1750 and 2500. Looking at a few exhaust changes to get rid of it.

No kidding?! Huh. What motor/mods?

Exhaust drone is related to the exhaust system design and hasn't anything to do with the motor itself. I have a 2012 Mustang GT with Pypes muffler deletes and I know the drone you are concerned about. The Coyote engine in a FFR Cobra would not suffer from that drone. You may have lots of other noise and rumble at various rpms but not the same 2000 rpm drone.

I know I’m crazy for reviving a 10 year old thread, but I’m at wits end here. Just like 5873 said, I also have crazy drone in my finished roadster. I have a Forte 306 motor with standard Gas N pipes. There is no drone outside of 1800-2500, but that’s my ideal cruising speed and it drones constantly. Has anyone found a fix for this??
