All,
The wife pissed me off today so i decided to strike back! I'm ordering wheels on Monday and would like your input. My car is going to be black, chrome roll bar and jet hot pipes. I've not looked to much at wheels in the past so I need your thoughts on chrome or polished.

Mike...i can go shoe shopping too!!!

If you're really pissed, get a set of these...there won't be any danger of her talking to you for weeks.

The F-series is my choice...

The chrome is much less maintenance in the long run compared to the need for polishing of aluminum. Although aluminum are sure to never peel. I just think that too much chrome is more of a hot rod look...less of a performance look. This is merely my opinion, but that's what you asked for. Not to mention chrome is EXPENSIVE....

Mike,

What did you do wrong this time :D :D

Was it the fact I drove up today and did not take her for a ride?? Or was it that you blew off the honey do's after I left and you decided to work on the car again.

Oh, this was about wheels....Chrome in my opinion will look best against the back paint.

Personally, I prefer the look of polished aluminum. And, as mentioned, polished is similar in appearance to the ceramic-coated pipes. It's an aesthetic symetry thing for me: lower part (pipes, wheels) get a silver appearance and top parts (windshield, roll bars) get chrome.

My vote is for Chrome.
It really stands out and makes the car more exotic (my opinion anyways).
now, if you are going racing that's a different story.
But don't take my comments too seriously...especially from a guy that tried to chrome everything and has a 600 watt-stereo in his FFR.

What bwana50 said. It's an aesthetic symmetry thing. Polished looks better with silver ceramic tubes IMHO.

I went through the same delimma when looking for a new wheel for my Harley. Polished...Chrome...Polished...Chrome? What to do? I've always believed that the polished wheels required more maintenance, and was therefore heading towards chrome.

But I spoke with a local custom shop operator about this delimma, and finally ended up with polished. Chrome is heavier, but not enough for me to worry about. When chrome gets scratched or cracked, the underlying material will corrode where you can't see it. And chrome is impossible to repair.

I've had polished on there now for a few months. So far, I've not had to polish anything. Just wash and wipe like I normally would. I was told that Pledge puts a very nice shine that lasts when you need it. I'm very happy with the look and the maintenance issue. I'll be putting polished Bullit wheels on my FFR.

Just a thought: if you want the polished look, what about silver anodizing? I've heard anodizing sometimes doesn't work as well on cast parts (i.e. wheels); anyone ever tried it?

Todd,
Very nice. That's exactly the look I'm going for. What brand wheels are those? Did you spray the inner portion yourself or have it done professionally? Have any more pics of your car? Thanks
