I want some feed back on my hood.

I'm considering using button heads or rivets on the lower front flanged and the upper flanged at the top of the hood. I know it's my car and can build the way I want, I'm just on the fence about this decision. I have never seen this yet on a car and want to be a little different. Tell me your thoughts.

as long as their evenly spaced I think it will look good. Funny how only a little variation in spacing look so out of place. I personally don't care for the look of rivets or button heads and prefer to avoid them.

I didn't like the idea of using pop rivets on the hood of my car so I opted for 3/16" stainless allen head machine screws. I also found some 3/16" i.d. "O" rings in the plumbing dept. of the local hdw. store to use under the screw head as a gasket so there was no chance the metal-to-paint contact would start a chip or crack at the hole. You don't notice the "O"ring but it provides enough cushion to prevent a chip. I did the same thing under the body bolt heads for ther same reason with a rubber washer sized to match the bolt head.

I used Stainless 10-32 buttonheads.I didnt like the looks of the rivots.I think that there are some items on a Cobr...ooops Roadster that can get too "smooth" or to use another term civilized. For example IMO black side pipes lend themselves to a more brutal look, they kinda say function first...to hell with everything else.Once again IMO the hood is another area that can lend itself to the overall idea you want to project with your car.My $.02.

Where exactly are you talking about when you say top edge. Are you proposing to install some fasteners just for looks or will they serve a purpose. If they will serve no purpose I would say dont do it...unless of course you like the studded seat and saddlebag look on motorcycles (I dont).

Yes Smitty they will attatch the upper hoop to the hood. Instead of bonding it.

Mike,

As you probably know I have rivets, but can say I really like the look of the button head screws. As far as putting either at the edge near the handles, I don't think that would look right. Of course I often think I won't like something, then when I see it done I think it looks great. In fact, I wasn't going to put the rivets until I looked at one with them.
