I pulled the 5.0 yesterday, getting the carbed 418W ready to go in. How exactly do you run the plumbing to the heater? Another thread said to run from the intake to the heater, then back to the pump. If so, which port is best? I'm running the Air Gap manifold.

Thanks,

Karl

It doesn't really matter which port you use on the water pump. Either one is fine. Since the other port is for the thermostat housing bypass, use whichever one fits best.

If the normal flow of water through the block is from lower radiator to waterpump, through the block and then out the thermostat housing, wouldn't taking the dicharge off the water pump into the bypass cause a peoblem ? shouldn't it be the suction side of the pump ? You would have water trying to leave the thermostat housing to return to the radiator fighting the positive pressure of the water
pump dicharge ? The reason I ask, is I had a heating problem when I first started my engine with the hose running to the bypass in the thermostat housing. As soon as I pluged off both ports on the punp to eliminate that being a problem, the heating problem went away. Wazupwidat ? Thanks for responding because I am at the same point.

Take the water for the heater from the plug directly behind the thermostat. Looks like you have a brass plug in it now. Run to the heater, and return to the bottom fitting on the water pump.
