Hey gang, first of all you guys have been a huge help in getting my car up and running. So thanks for all the help. The problem is that I can't get the battery to charge once I run the car for a little while. I have to recharge it with my battery charger. The FFR manual says you must hook up the resistor and the charge indicator light. I have no clue where these things are. Can anyone help me out here?

Thanks!

Bill, thanks for the response but I should have been more clear. We are using autometer gauges. I think I remembered reading something in the FFR manual about hooking up the ammeter they supplied with the kit. I'm not sure. I guess I'll go read and see what I can come up with.

Black Bullitt,
The Ford alternator needs a "tickle" to get charging.
Make sure you have the 510 ohm resistor across the alternator indicator lamp.
This allows current to flow for a brief period to start the alternator charging.

Let me know if you are still having a problem and we will get it worked out.

Ed, I found the 510 ohm resistor on the back on the mustang gauge pod. I removed it and am now trying to find where to soder it to. From looking at some wiring diagrams, it appears to me that I can soder it into a green wire with a red line on it and then wire it up to our ignition switch. Am I correct in assuming this?
Thanks for helping!

Black B,

Yes, that's exactly what to do. It'll charge fine then.

The green/red stripe wire goes back to the alt. That'll go to one side of the bulb/resistor. Other side of the bulb/resistor goes to the "run" position of the switch. When you turn the ignition on, but don't start, the light will go on. Once the alt starts charging, the alt removes the gnd connection and the lamp goes out.
