Hi guys...my buddy is taking flying lessons and spotted this sweet plane as he was leaving the airport yesterday. I don't recognize it immediately and was wondering if you guys did.

It's a "little" more than a two seat Bonanza.

Like they said, a T-34. It was an advanced trainer in its day, the next step would have been the jets. This particular plane belongs to a guy in Lima Lima Squadron, a precision flying team. Two of them live right near Ozona.

Paul,

The turbine powered variant (T-34C) is called the Turbo Mentor (or Turbo Weiner once you've graduated from primary flight training) and is still in use by the navy/marine corps. Not for much longer, however. It was a fun plane. I had it going 250 knots one day (275 knot Vne if memory serves) and thought it was going to come apart around me.

Surprised that no one brought up its replacement..

And don't forget about Raytheon Aircrafts T1 Jayhawk trainer....

And on a different note. Here is an interesting website. That shows how much it costs to own and operate a corporate jet. See if you could afford one of these. Oh yeah..you better take your heart medicine first. One thing I noticed is that they are still showing fuel at $2.00 a gallon. It now over $4.20 a gallon at BED. (Bedford, MA)

Is the Texan II related to the Pilatus trainers? Wasn't it a joint program that ratheyon took over?
