I have front and rear brakes from a '99 Mustang. They were pulled off of an insurance total after an accident but the car had been sitting outside for almost a year. Now that they are installed the brake pads don't pull back fully when the brake pedal is released. I'm not at the gocart stage yet to tell fully but the caliper is VERY tight on the rotor. Is this something that will improve with time or possibly I need to rebuild? Does anyone know of a website that illustrates the PBR fronts and the Varga rears?
Thanks,
Brian

Sounds like your calipers are the problem. If they sat out they may have some build up on the pistons. I would try cycling them through several times. If it comes down to it, buying rebuilt is a better deal than doing it yourself. The rebuild kits are way overpriced and pain in the butt compared to just sliding on some new ones. At least that has been my experience.

I just went through something similiar on my truck and the piston was sticking.

I ran into the same problem on my 95 Saleen. The calipers were so tight that the brakes began to smoke about a mile from my home. I removed the calipers to find that the slide pins were seized. That's it. I replaced the $2.00 part and was back in business in no time. Make sure the pins slide in and out with ease. Good luck to you.

I'm with Tom, it sounds like the slide pins. You also will not be able to see the pistons "pull back fully when the brake pedal is released." It's a floating design, they don't fully retract into the caliper, they just stop squeezing on the rotor. At least that's what they do when there working right. You may be able to clean and lube the slide pins, these are the pins that also mount the caliper to the spindle. Ford calls for silicone dielectric grease, D7AZ-19A331-A. Usually cleaning is a short term fix, once the pins start to rust it happens again quickly.
