I have been doing some finishing touches on my MKII. The driver's side door has not been latching properly which I know is a known issue. I found the striker plate was moving causing part of the issue so I decided to tighten it. I must have tightened too hard breaking the nut and part of the bolt that protrudes from the plate. Any ideas on how to fix without having to order a new set?
Thanks
Door latch mod: Chris (CCRsAC) posted a great how-to here: Door latch mods for greater reliability and function This is a cheap and easy mod and will prevent you from damaging your door latches and they will operate smoother. HIGHLY recommend!
Clifnotes version:
6/32 machine screw to re-enforce knob
chamfer the hole for the pin in the striker post (I also lightly filed the edges of the post)
carriage bolt and nyloc nut through the lever mechanism
carefully file a little off of the latch stop to allow full retraction
thoroughly lubricate with lithium grease and hit it with WD-40 in a couple spots the grease won't penetrate
Sorry, I was thinking of the older style stricker.
