I cant figure out why my brake lights stay on, when I install the tail lights. I have running lights, and both turn signals working fine back there. I know that the bright light wire is green. Im puting that wire in the purple wire terminal on both sides and they come on bright but dont shut off. Is this an indication of the brake switch not working? the switch is depressed when the pedal is resting, then when brake is applied the switch button is not deppressed. Is that correct? maybe the switch needs adjustment? any advice on this issue? I will take a pic later today-Andy

Are you using the stock mustnag switch? Also are you using an adjustable pushrod? if so I just ran into the same problem. The back of the push rod is too thick causing the brake light switch to stay on all the time. Grind it down until the problem goes away.

brake switch

"when brake is applied the switch button is not depressed

That tells me you are using a cylindrical type push button, not the standard Ford switch that mounts on the peddle.

The Ford switch is a normally open switch and needs pressure to make the connection. The cylindrical type switch is a normally closed switch and needs pressure released from it to make the connection (button pops out when peddle pressure is applied). Sounds like you need to adjust the button so the plunger is fully depressed when the brakes are at rest.

As another option to consider ...

I've never been a big fan of the cylindrical-type brake switches 'cause they';re generally not very high quality items, and in most cases, where they're mounted is very hard, if not almost impossible to get to if (when) the switch needs to be replaced.

So I plumbed a hydraulic brake switch into my brake line just "down stream" from the master cylinder.

The message footer says Complete Kit, which means Wilwood pedal box. Factory 5 supplies a push-OFF switch for their pedal box. When the brake pedal is fully disengaged, the brake switch plunger must be pushed in far enough to open the brake light circuit. I got lucky and checked the brake light circuit before the body went on (brake lights were on all the time.) I had to move a washer on the switch mount to change the switch location, because the brake pedal was not pushing the switch far enough in to open the brake light circuit with the brake pedal fully released.

that switch is tricky, because it seems like its pushed in, but it may not be, you need to hear it click. I had to remove harware to get my button pushed hard enough into the pedal. Definately sounds like that is your problem.

correct, I have the wilwood switch with the complete kit. Sooo if the white button is not pushed in far enough(toward the driver) the brake lights will not go off?
