After reading the thread with the Boss 429 in a Jag, I found a place that sells parts to make a Boss 429 engine

I would like to know if this engine will fit into an FFR without too many mods? The engine mounts should be the same as a standard 429, but the heads might hit the foot boxes.

Can you imagine the look on people's faces when they look into the engine bay and see one of those beauties?

Thanks
Keith

Somewhere, someplace out there in WWW. land there has to be a site that has the overall dimensions of the boss motor.
I know there's a guy putting a new modular motor in a FFR. Aren't those pretty wide?
Something to work on.
Cool idea.

My guess is, in order to get the modular motor or the Boss to fit you would have to move the engine further forward to get it away fron the foot boxes. This is what FFR did with the 460, it's about 2" further forward than the stock 302. The only concern would be adding additional weight to the front end and radiator clearence.

Satanpez, I'm pretty sure the Boss 429 has the standard cam in the middle of the block design. Your'e probably thinking of the SOHC 429. I have seen pictures of a cammer motor stuffed in a ERA or Contemporary. Ya got me as to what makes the Boss longer.

The Cleveland design has the timing case added (cast) to the front of the motor compared to the Windsor motor, I believe. Perhaps this early 385 series also has a similar setup, making the block longer but the end result with water pump equal length. I can't remember what they look like offhand. It seems to me that the 460 has an aluminum chain cover with water ports that is prone to corrosion and often needs to be replaced on rebuild.

If you could get it to fit (which I have no idea if it will) it would be definitely a 10 out of 10 on the coolness factor. :D

The standard 429 and 460 blocks are the same. However, the Boss 429 block is different to accomodate the canted semi-hemi valve train, and a has a different oiling system. That may account for the additional length. Also, the heads are totally different. They will not fit the standard 429/460 block.

Mike - You are referring to the 427 SOHC engine. It came with a chain driven OHC. Completely different engine.

I did a lot of searching to come up with an "estimated" cost of building a Boss 429 - $20K!! A little too steep for me.

But like Wayne said, the idea of putting one in would really raise the "WOW" factor.

a modular 4.8 is bigger then the boss 429.. but the modular motor would be a better choice and cheaper and look just as good.. look at what some of the folks are doing to them in the mustang books... they look really mean..
