Guys,

I just got off the phone with Bilstein President Doug Robertson. We had a very constructive and positive conversation. I believe Doug cares deeply about the safety of anyone using Bilstein products, and despite the difficulties our companies have had, I do sincerely like this guy. He is a solid guy, not a corporate type, and he understands motorsports. We did reach an agreement to help address the current concerns about Bilstein shocks mounted on Factory Five cars. The agreement is a rework/upgrade program whereby the guys at Bilstein will upgrade shocks with larger diameter shafts and improved bearings for $35 per shock (which includes return shipping). The program is outlined below.

Program:

Bilstein corporation will re-work and upgrade Bilstein shocks for a cost of $35 each. The customer must remove and send their shocks to Bilstein, after which Bilstein will perform specified upgrades and return the product to the customer.

The upgrades include a better bearing/rod-end, a larger and stronger shaft (14mm up from the existing 11mm), and new valving/seals to go with the larger shafts. The upgrades will also include factory installation of the newer design upper rod-ends to correct torque specification (this will require customers to provide their spring hats and threaded sleeves as part of this program).

The company will offer this re-work and upgrade program to FFR customers who have Bilstein shock #s:

BE3 A273-T0
BE3 A273-T1
BE3 A273 T0 SR

These numbers are stamped on the shock body. These shocks have been used on the front suspension and the rear independent suspension cars (rear solid axle and rear three-link shocks were different). Customers will be required to forward their shocks, spring hats and threaded sleeves, securely packaged to the Bilstein at one of the two facilities listed below.
