My original racing 428 FE from 1967

I bought this engine from Carroll Shelby in 2001. It was raced in 1967 when the side oilers became scarce. Long story if anyone is interested, please email me. I'm planning on selling it as a long block, minus the intake and carb. so I can but a new Dove side oiler. I have all the specs., photo's and a short video on you tube, if you're interested, let me know. [email protected] Anyway, here she is. (I have changed valve covers to the Pentroofs)

To sotxbutler; How do you like the injection set up? I'm building a 427 and have been looking at the injection but still have this thing for the traditional webbers. I know about the never have to tune for climate thing, but love the old webber look. Any advice?

I would take that Boss 9 on for an tight fit. I bet it would be just damn fun figuring out the details and parts needed to do it. Now that would be a project to get it under the hood.

What a sleeper it would be. GO FOR IT!!!!!

Newbie here. I'm thinking the Boss 429, if that's what you're referring to, would be the last engine to put in a Cobra. They don't make HP well except at high RPM and a 427 or 428 will outrun them unless you're running a big oval or a course with few curves and long straights. JMO.

I'm looking at a replica with a Chevy L88 which was vastly underrated in power by GM. Iron block and alum heads. Love the engine as much as the FE and sideoiler. But I wonder if I'd be happier with a SB with 400HP or even a modern SB like the 4.6. I have a problem with those engines as they just aren't period correct but dependibility and gas mileage can't be beat.

I'd post pics of the L88 but it's not mine yet and more importantly I'm not sure how to do it.

since when is a L88 period correct in any FORD based vehicle. Buy a vette for that brand X lump.

I wasn't implying it was. But it is the right period of time. And with a replica, I'm not certain it matters really. Also, I agree a Ford engine would be more correct. In the end all that matters is the owner is happy.

BTW, the L88 was one of the more powerful engines to ever go in a vette. A good bit more than the higher rated L71.

Not sure why the rancor here. I've owned many kinds of automobiles, motorcycles, boats and planes. I've enjoyed many no matter the name and type. The whole point of my post was I wasn't certain I wanted a BB of any kind and I'm wondering if I'd be happier with a modern engine even one with forced induction. BBs tend to leak, use oil and a whole lot of gas. They're heavy up front and you can get way more power than you can use with a naturally aspirated SB not to mention one with FI.

Have a great day. Sorry if I bothered you or anyone and for posting off topic.
