I'm freshening up the engine and have it apart. What is the best cleaner to use to clean up the pistons and the cumbustion chambers of the heads, etc, if anything.

Thanks,

Jerry

Hi John:

The thrust bearing is trashed and scored the crank. Looks like my heating issue took its toll. Mike Forte will have a new crank for me this week.

Soak in yo degreaser to remove grease and oil. Carb cleaner works good.

To get the rest of the crud off, I use a soft bristle wire brush in a drill motor. Only takes a minute or so for each piston.

I used spray carb cleaner and purple scotch brite. I used a broken ring to clean ring grooves. Carb cleaner and a wire brush on combustion chambers, I have iron heads.
