After 2,000 miles on my 2.73's, I'm ready to get some 3.55's.
My neighbor(Transmission/Driveline specialist) will do the set-up/install but I will supply the gears.
Where to buy?? Want good quality with decent price.
Thanks in advance...
Eric

In doing research on a TracLoc rebuild I came across some info on gears.Apparantly the Ford gears are marked on the pinion referring to the needed pinion shim. They group the production runs by measuring in a fixture and marking them w/ something like a +,a - or a 0. So you compare the mark on the old pinion w/ the one on the new pinion and then can calculate the needed shim. For me anyway, that says buy Ford and forget the rest.

Just did that swap myself, I bought used gears off of Ebay (MISTAKE - I found the patterns hard to read, and I know it will nag at the back of my mind). As long as you're back there, might as well replace all of the bearings & seals - the master rebuild kit was about $110, the posi rebuild kit was about $50... seemed like false economy not to freshen everything.

In my case neither the original or replacement gear was legibly stamped with a relative pinion depth index (+3 -2 etc.), although both were Ford gears. Most "swap instructions" on the net do recommend sticking with Ford gears, I'd second the recommendation based upon my experience.

Doing it again, I would buy new gears from a forum vendor.

Thanks guys,
I'll get the FRP gears. Rebuild Trac Loc and bearings are a given(while it's apart).
