I just read a post about backorder problems w/FFR and a member mentioned an alternative would be to purchase their kit from an area builder. This would supposedly eliminate waiting for backordered kit parts since the builder has their own inventory. This sounds like a good idea if the kit price is the same as FFR. Also the builder would have a more personal interest in helping you with questions, problems, and purchasing additional parts. My next question is where is there a listing of area builders? I live in Rochester, NY and will seriously concider purchasing my kit from a builder. TIA, John

Dont worry about the back orders you have seen mentioned on this forum. I picked up two weeks ago and it is minimal, will not affect the build and is being handled very well by the folks at FFR.
RE going through an aftermarket builder, I don't think they get the kits any cheaper than you would from FFR so they would be doing this for free?? You could end up paying more. Also there is a BIG saving in shipping and crating if you just rent a triler from Uhaul and go get the kit yourself on the w/e. I say just relax on the BO thing, call FFR direct and put the order in. Finally since FFR do work on slim profit margins I believe that IMHO going direct to them is the right thing to do.

I went with an area builder (Whitbys in my case) and wouldn't do it any other way. You pay the same as if ordering from FFR. I believe the authorized builders get a discount and get their margin off the difference. Anyway, support is great. In fact, I never called FFR during the entire build process. I got all the help I needed from Whitbys and the forum.

The best part was, since they also build cars, they had a lot of FFR parts and donor stuff laying around. For example, when I found out my gas tank had a hole in it I just called Whitbys. A used gas tank was on the way. If a backorder part is really holding you up, they can usually pull one out of their own inventory or even off the demo car. There are lots of other examples but you get the point.
