Hi All,

Working on our Model "T," and thinking I'm getting exhaust into the coolant. I am looking at "Leak Detector Kit / Engine Block, Test Tools Inc.; Test For Cracked Blocks, Leaky Gaskets, Cracked or Warped Heads" from either Napa:

NAPA AUTO PARTS

-OR-

Block Tester Combustion Leak Test for Blown Head Gasket by Test Tools inc.

I read somewhere that it should be used on a closed cooling system, which the T does not have. Will this work on an open system?

Any experience or advice is appreciated!

I have used the NAPA kit with very poor results given that I had a bad head and head gasket. The kit did not detect. I would not depend on the kit to point to a leak issue, if you think there is an issues, most likely there is.

I like your reply Tony! Thanks for the perspective.

I am running straight distilled water right now, and taking the top off the radiator certainly smells like exhaust. So I'd expect you're right...

Tony, thanks! I may just take you up on the offer.

Pa has my water pump right now (replacing worn out shaft and bushings), but once I have it back, I plan on doing some more investigation work.
