I am picking up a 1966 428P (police interceptor) engine for my car tomorrow morning. this is the engine that they put in the Cobra's when the 427 sideoilers were scarce.

I cannot find a picture of what this engine should look like in an original cobra?

1. I assume the cars still had 427 badges on the side?
2. what kind of valve covers
3. small 8.5" Stellings & Hellings aircleaner or Cobra style?
3. did they use the turkey pan?

any help would be appreciated.....

The 428 PI was used when the 427 was deemed to be too expensive. The 428 was actually 427 CID, while the 427 was 426 CID. When the 427 was being named GM already had a 426, so the name 427 was chosen. Then when the 428 was being developed it could not be called the ‘427’ so…

I believe only the SC models had the turkey pan - as it was intended to seal up to the hood scoop, and the standard street cars didn't have the scoop - although some people added it on themselves later on. The SC cars had the scoop, the turkey pan, and real side-oiler 427's. If you're going to try and replicate a 428 powered street car, you're going to have to add a glove box, the standard type gas cap, delete the roll bar, and delete the flared lip on the rear fenders. I think the 428 cars also had cast exhaust manifolds also, but I'm not totally sure on that one.
