I have read a lot on here about trial fitting the body and needing to trim the panels for bulb seal. I have a MK 3.1 and I just dropped the body on and everything lines up pretty good. My problem is not that I need to trim the panels but need to add to them to to get them so the bulb seal will contact the body. This is especially true on the rear elephant ears. Is this unusual ? If i pull the body in enough to contact the panels it puts a lot of strain on the body, which I have to believe will crack the the body over time. How important is it that the panels actually contact the body? Is adding filler pieces to these panels OK?

On a related note: the left and right vertical radiator panels. If I line the lower part of the panel where it is notched out with the bracket on the frame the top of the panel is nowhere near touching the body. Is this normal?
