I installed my radiator today. All went well, but I can not find a suitable location for my radiator overflow tank. Is there a spot I have missed? Is the device needed?
Many of us are using the stock tank mounted to the stock radiator: it's pretty much out of sight, also cheap and easy.
Put a vacuum cap on the T-filler vent outlet, and use a higher-pressure radiator cap on the "T", with a stock cap on the radiator, and it works fine, self-purges, etc.
Yes, I am using the stock shroud but the GD thing just does not seem to want to go in there. I wonder if I have shroud and tank from different years. I bought my donor parts a la carte.
Here is what I have done, and I admit that I have not yet started the engine, so I am assuming I have no problems.
I removed the stock plastic overflow tank that is attached to the side of the stock radiator. I put a Moroso in line T-filler ($24.00) and a Stant cap ($9.00) to go into the upper radiator hose above the alternator. I purchased a simple white plastic overflow tank from Performance Automotive Warehouse ($5.95) and some clear radiator overflow hose (3/8) and a brass tee. I hooked up both the radiator's and Moroso's overflow outlet, using the brass T to the overflow tank so that the cooling system could expand and suck back in coolant from both.
I used this Moroso tank from Summit for about 70 bucks. I made the bottom bracket out of a piece of aluminum and the top is bolted to the front splash guard. One short piece of hose connects it. Also it is a recovery type tank
Thanks, guys. I ordered a new overflow tank from JC Whitney. When it gets here I may redo the radiator installation by taking off the shroud. It depends on how much room I need.
