I have a donor build with a 1991 5.0 with a BBK 65mm throttle body. When I start driving, the accelerator is very responsive at my foot. After about 10-15 minutes, the accelerator seems to stick and is alot less responsive and tight. There is also a whistling noise when I accelerate hard. The problem is not in the linkage, and I believe it might be in the throttle body baffle sticking when heated up, or extreme pressure on the engine side of the throttle body baffle. Has any one had or heard of this problem and what can I do?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave H

if the cable is to close to the header it will melt the inner liner which will stick to the cable and make it hard to function, not that it ever happen to me:). When it cools off, it seems to work fine again.

The bbk throttle body is known to whistle. I think it's worst right off idle.

You can take it off and use a file or dremel to try to radius the sharp edge off the hole that goes to the idle valve. It will help reduce it. I did that on the one I had. It didn't remove the sound totally...but it did make it a whole lot better.

I second the throttle cable...but check the throttle blade and make sure it's not gummed up on the edges. Maybe it's dirty and sticking when it closes.

OK...after I ran the car for 15 minutes, I could feel the resistance at the pedal, as soon as I turned the engine off, the cable was loose and very responsive. So it must be the the trottle blade sticking inside the throttle body bore. Any suggestions from here?

Thanks,

I had a chevy votec that did a very similar thing. I removed the the air intake and looked closely at the throttle butterfly as I moved it manually. It had a slight catch. I polished it a bit and it worked fine. I can't tell you the number of times I crawled under the dash, messed with the pedal and cable and it was just a little adjusting of the throttle body to fix it.
