Let's see...got the kit 2/16/02, and the motor went in about 1 month ago. Did 90% of the wiring, all the brake plumbing (Buick GN), ran fuel lines from the custom JAZ cell, filled the cooling system, and installed the BIGS Holley potato. Turned the key for the first time today...all excited...nothing. Oh, forgot to turn on the battery disconnect. Turned the key again...nothing. Forgot to turn on the hidden kill switch. Turned the key again..uh uh uh uh uh...pump the gas...uh uh uh uh uh...POW. Okay..let's check everything one more time. Maybe this isn't number 1 on the distributor..maybe that one is..let's see. UH uh uh uh uh....vrroooommmmm.....purrrrrr.

No shorts
no blown fuses
no brake leaks
no fuel leaks
no water leaks
no oil leaks
clutch works
tranny shifts
200 degrees
70 psi oil pressure
6 psi fuel pressure

Only 1 casualty...one of my indestructable nylon plug wire looms melted off and landed on the header...smelled awful.

Anyway, I'm now sitting on the curb out by the street waiting for the Big Brown Truck to bring my wheels....

Good job Oldguy. I've been following your build too. We both got our kits within a month of each other.

I'm all ready to put the engine in, just still waiting on my darn buffer to arrive so I can clean up the engine compartment a bit first.

Congrats Oldguy,
Sounds like fun it will be nice to be to that point, but I have a ways to go. I look forward as well to seeing some of your pictures. It sounds like from your posts I've seen over the last couple of months that you have a nice build going on.

Spill it...size, bolt spacing, backspacing, brand, style, supplier, etc. Come on now...

Fronts are 18 x 8.5 with 5.5 backspace. They'll have 255/40-18 Pirelli P-Zero's

Rears are 18 x 9.5 with 6.5 backspace. 285/40-18 Pirelli P-Zero's

The fronts clear the Cobra calipers by 1/4" or so, and the inside edge of the rear tire will just clear the end of the 2x3 frame piece by about 1/2". The outside edges are the same as 9" Cobra R's with 5.95" backspace. These wheels will NOT work with quad shocks. I put the extra 1/2" inside, so quad shocks are out. BTW, the rear end is a standard Fox width unit with Richard Oben's caliper adapters for my Cobra calipers.

The rims are polished, and the centers look dull because they are blasted and ready for paint. They'll be House of Kolor Black Pearl to match the car. They are made by Simmons of Australia.
Jeff Curran of Group A in Chandler Arizona handled all the details, including getting them to me unassembled so I wouldn't have used fasteners after I painted the centers. I slapped one together just to take the picture.

Very nice!!

That is a serious wheel package. Thanks for the stats. I remembered you were using the Fox axles with Oben's bracket. I'm still fixing to go the straight M2300K way if I can but still haven't been able to zero in on a straight-up, bolt on wheel option that clears everything without an axle swap and the brackets. Thanks again.

You can use the M2300K setup out of the box, but you have to add 3/4" on each side to your backspace requirement. You can squeak by with 9" Cobra R wheels with 6.42" backspace, but don't go over 275 on the tire width. The problem with the wide rear is that your front wheels will end up with more "dish" than the rears, which is not good. My wheels theoretically have the same "frontspace" both front and rear, but Jeff played with the center flange thinckness and actually got me an extra 1/2" dish in the rear. Not much, but it did the trick.

Great job oldguy!!

I tried calling you last week but you weren't around... I'll try to stop by soon. What ended up happening with the body??? Did you end up selling it??

Enjoy the noise!

Later,

I haven't yet, but I'm still tempted. I saw Ozona's Tristate body in his post, and I'm drooling over it. I like the rear fender lines and the no-hump trunk lid. And, I planned for it. I can change the outer rim on these wheels for some 1.5" wider for pretty short money. That'll take advantage of the extra 3" in rear end width that the Tristate body allows...that means 335 tires on 11" rims.

CJ,

I have the straight out of the box Cobra R set-up and found the 17" compmotive halibrand replicas to be a perfect fit with standard fox axle and parts out of the cobra "R" kit.. Call Yasper at FFR for different backspacing to fit different tires. I am running 275's on the back and 245's on the front BFG G-Force KD's
