Monitoring a second home

Anyone have systems they like for monitoring a second home?

I'm looking at the Nest products.

Thinking I'd like to get a thermostat, some outdoor cameras, doorbell and smoke/CO2 detectors. Maybe even one indoor camera (although that could be overkill).

Going to be a lot more money than non-internet connected devices, but thinking I'd want to be able to have access to view all that's going on (or not going on) at another place we are in the midst of buying.

Any other systems I should look at? I have a Ring doorbell and cameras at my current home, but don't see they offer thermostats and smoke detectors and I think I'd like to have everything in one system/app.

Dan

Not that I am really recommending it, just throwing this out there...have you checked with your internet provider? Here, in San Diego, Cox does a bunch of this stuff for you if you have their internet service.

My BIL did this through Cox and has had them back more than once to address problems, but it does give them someone to call that is a big company when things go wrong.

Simply safe does a good job, and no contract.

I have one at a radio tower site, and it has worked very good, including a camera to keep up with whats going on. I also use a couple Wyse cameras for backup. Internet is available there for the Wyse cameras.

Second site is hunting cabin out in the boon docks. No internet available, but cellular works well. Simply safe works on 12 volts, so some golf cart batteries gives me plenty of backup when solar drops in the winter. This one has been in for several years now.

Please note that each Nest camera will consistently use bandwidth. We joke that they are 1mbs or more per camera. If you do not have a high speed ISP, you can saturate out pretty quick.
