Once again, who knew?

So, I went to give my truck its annual R134a top off. I couldn't get the gas out of the can.

Turns out the cans now have an internal check valve of sorts so you need a special "self sealing can tap," which of course I don't have.

So, now I get to go out to a few stores before I probably give up and order one on ebay.

And of course the valve I was using is only a year old because my old one bit the dust last year.

Just ran into the exact same thing yesterday. Walmart has an adapter next to the cans. Cost is about $3.00

Yeah, found that part out the hard way as well. I bought the new type can tap valve at Autozone. The guy kept saying something about an adapter but I could barely understand his English and it didn't matter since he was out of stock. Well, I get home with my new valve hook everything up only to find that the threads for the hose are different on the new tap valve. Who thinks this $h*t up? What good are safety measures if then everyone just buys adapters to get around them???

So, back out to two more stores to try to find the correct adapter for my valve to hose. In the end, I bought from pepboys the cheapo plastic adapter that connects the new cans to the old valve. So, I still would like to see if I can find a decent brass adapter to adapt my new valve to my old hoses.
