ANZAC Day is the New Zealand / Australian version of Memorial Day.
It honors all who have served.

"With the coming of the Second World War, Anzac Day became a day on which to commemorate the lives of Australians and New Zealanders lost in that war as well and in subsequent years. The meaning of the day has been further broadened to include those killed in all the military operations in which the countries have been involved."

Ok I thought that was just for WWI. I looked it up though and figured it out. Thanks. RIP to those that served from the Lands Down Under. God Bless.

And on another note, I hope they are doing better down there with everything they have been going through lately. Talk about tough times with the weather and Quakes...

My grandfather sailed on the Saratoga during WW2 and put in to port several times in Australia. It was one of the few places he truly wanted to visit in his retirement. He loved it there. I sure wished he could have gone back for a while. I know he sure had a deep respect for the Aussie and British sailors. "Brave, without fear" was the term I heard him use.

Heads up: It just became available on Netflix home mailing. I also saw it at the local Redbox, but in DVD only. Not yet available for Netflix streaming.

Another heads up: If in the event that you have Netflix streaming, there is a service for another $4 a month where you can get 4K streaming for select programming.

My favorite part of "They Shall Not Grow Old" was, for some odd reason, the cannons. There was one shot where the blast blew shingles off the rooftop of the structure nearby. I can only imagine what it felt like standing there with no ear protection.

My second favorite part was the eerie and dramatic footage of the soldier's faces, smiling and laughing, then they were shown dead in the mud. I had to watch these clips over and over again, and I am nearly certain they were the same people. I can't imagine how this was done.

It must have really, really, REALLY sucked being in those trenches, but in British fashion, they seemed to "keep calm and carry on." (I understand that was a WW2 slogan.)
