Coupe in Sydney Australia

Well my first post for this thread, but its authentic.. I needed to make room under the house to extend the existing garage. Lucky I have some engineering and building experience, although the diggers are going to cost no matter what..

Looking good, the prep for the cars arrival can be as much work as the car.

I reworked my storage shelves and work bench in anticipation of my cars delivery.

And of course, had to get a healthy honey do list finished as well.

When is the expected delivery date?

Chris

Ordered and delivered 9th of June 08, Coupe enthusiast, owner, builder and soon to be thrashing the gears. Are we there yet?
Tagged and on the road 24th of May 2011, even more fun than advertised.

You know sometimes building these coupes is almost outweighed by the prep costs!!

thanks everyone..

The cost of the extension to the garage will be about equivalent to the FFR list price.. Is not too bad when its the only option in the place I currently own.. am far more intimated by the work required to assemble the car

Production date is 24 May, pick up the week after... 6 - 8 weeks with shipping and customs. Garage will be done in about 3..

Its not too hard thankfully Kim.. 65 tonnes of it none the less... . Slab down, walls and ceiling to be installed in the next week or so I hope.

One question I have searched on but found limited information on if there are any pointers available:

I was planning to fit a cold air intake at the front of the hood and feed the air over the radiator via a fabricated aluminum runner to the inlet of the LS3 motor.

Can anyone enlighten me on the details of a MAF less tune and how this can be selected / programmed with the ECU..?

Cheers

Chris

You will not be able to feed air over the radiator. No room. Radiator fitment is within 3/4".

Tuning LS motors with MAF: There are 2 programs I am aware of. HP-Tuner and EFI Live.

Tuning the LS with out MAF (MAF Less). Di you really intend to say MAF less?

If yes, then many questions. Same intake? Will have to have a different ECU.

I think I have heard of running a LS on speed density. Here is where to ask the question as they are the LS experts: Chevy | Camaro | Firebird Reviews, Performance Parts, Modifications - LS1Tech.com

The air flowing under the car should be ambient temp so you could just tuck it under the radiator ductwork. Mine is fairly low just behind the x-brace. Box is to show LS hood clearance.

A call to anyone in AUS (or unlikely as it may be) in the US, that may have a set of torsional test data for the Coupe or Roadster. The Automotive Engineer I am using in Aus would accept the Roadster data. Having this would save a lot of time and cost during my build.

With thanks

I have grape analysis files of the coupe.

3D Finite Element program that uses truss and beam elements to model a wide range of Mechanical and Civil structures.

Grape?!? haven't heard that name in decades.

If it's the same program I think it is (and I do think it is) that was written by one of my old engineering professors. I swear that bastard was using us as guinea pigs for that program.

In case you are wondering the original version of Grape was written in Pascal, that is how old this thing is :P

thanks Kim....

All the walls now up.. garage area ready for lining next week.

Freight and AU duties hurting just a bit at the moment.. more than half the cost of the car.. !

Getting some love with the detail for a RH steering rack and have progressed the torsion testing issues. The magic piece of the puzzle will be the test data after getting clarification on the mods required to the chassis... is all progress..

Fingers crossed my coupe is sailing smoothly across the Altantic as we speak and the rear end is enjoying its time cruising the Pacific...

Cheers

RHD steering rack

Am trying to source a RHD rack for my Coupe, currently on its way to AUS..

Am advised by a Mustang converter in Aus that a Subaru Liberty / Legacy from 2000 is the right car.

Key dimensions as far as I'm aware are the; overall length (around 48 inches), housing length (20 3/8 inches) and particularly the Pivot points (24.5 inches).. based on the 87-04 Mustang steering rack dimensions I took from the Flaming River site.

The rack does need to be a locally sold unit to meet the Aussie design rules (ADR's), so a specialist import wouldn't necessarily work.

Any correction / confirmation or further advice would be appreciated.

Cheers..

Sam's Performance in Padstow should be able to supply a MAF less tune and remove the security. Sideshow in Qld did my roadster LS2 ECU and modified the HSV wiring harness to suit, then it was dynoed at a later time.

Interesting about the Subaru rack, am curious as to how this pans out. Not sure about the ADR requirement, the clubbie guys often use aftermarket racks from the UK. At the end of the day it's what your engineer is happy to sign off on.

Cheers

Geoff

thanks Geoff..

Since that post I have also found a guy in Hornsby who can do the MAF less tune (Classic Revival) and mod the harness.

Also was just on a call from a steering guy in Toongabbie who can do a custom rack for $750.. which is about the right number in Aus.. (as I never got a reply from CCA, even though they advised they had the part a few weeks ago..!). The Liberty rack can only work as an assisted unit, no manual option, so it will work in a RHD Mustang, but not an FFR.. (so we learn.. ).

All the best, and look forward to catching up at some stage..

Chris

Sounds like a win.

My roadster rack is unpowered, not an issue driving but parking can be a pain. If I do another project I'll probably use a powered rack.

Looking forward to seeing your build progress.

Cheers
