CA registration started

Kicked off the California registration process. Initial DMV visit went smooth and I got my SPCNS voucher. Just passed light and brake inspection. CHP appointment next week.

Fingers crossed the rest of the process goes as smooth.

I'll be there. Will probably bring my rig for the first time, since it's now roadworthy.

In the home stretch now.

I anticipate you’ll sail smoothly through the remainder of the registration process.

Im glad you got your SPCNS number. It seems there is no consistency in this process. I was unlucky. I went in January and paid registration in full. Everything went smooth until the DMV clerk called Sacramento for the Spcns number. Sacramento said i needed to get VIN assignment from CHP before they would issue my number. Sacramento County CHP was backlogged until May 29! So i decided to get the body painted while waiting for the appointment. The body took a little longer than expected and i missed the May 29 appointment. I now have an appointment for July 29.

I'm glad your second appointment didn't push *too* far out. Was worried they were going to schedule you in the fall, or even later. Did you get your care back from paint? How did it turn out?

What's the latest on a backup light?

Did they perform the hand-brake test, in which the car needs to stop in (?) feet from (?) mph?

I was away for much of the test - they had the car for 2.5 hours. I know they did an acceleration/full brake test. They checked the handbrake function, but don't know if it was from speed to a full stop. Because it is an SPCNS, they used 1965 rules. I had the backup light installed, but not sure if it was required. The only thing missing were corner reflectors, which they added (apparently needed from '65 forward).

I think the paint turned out great. Ken does a great job. The body/chassis are being assembled now. Im on vacation and hopefully when i get back next week ill be able to pick it up. Then ill re-assemble lights, bumper, etc. snd get brake/light inspection. Hopefully after my CHP appointment DMV should issue me a temporary operating permit.

I cant keep up with these forums and im not on this one that often. I do have a build thread on the other forum with photos of the paint. Its in the 289 sub-forum under vspeeds. Ill see you soon at cars n coffee in folsom.

Absolutely, Duncan. As soon as I get my temporary plates, I'll give you a ring and swing by.

By the way, cracking up at your rented mule comment.

Registration complete. Took just over a month, only because of the wait times for brake/light and CHP appointments. You can have these lined-up ahead of time, before you go to the DMV to kick everything off. Just make sure the timing is right to get your sequence number before the inspection visits.

Also, if you used a donor car and scrapped the body, you likely surrendered the title to the scrap yard. You'll need to explain that to the DMV, because they'll want to know what happened to it.
