Driveshaft Loop

This is pretty sweet (see link below). I thought I remember seeing someone offer a 'bolt on' driveshaft loop but it was a limited offering??? Does anyone remember who offered this? I know Mike Forte has a driveshaft loop as well which I'll probably go with. Thanks in advance.

I posted about one a while back. They were made by Metco.

https://www.ffcars.com/forums/17-fact...fety-loop.html

Forte had one too, that I think used rivnuts to install.

Metco

I have the Metco loop and am pleased with it . Bolted right in and appears to be able to stop any wayward driveshaft. As I recall , i had to wait a while to get it and their website was a little balky but can recommend. A touch pricey but worth it for safety reasons. Henry

I just sent Metco an E-mail to see if they still make them. There are a few of us that would like to order here in Washington. If I don't get response I'll call them this week and post answer

Thank you Henry & Fred

X2 on the Metco. It bolted in just right and looks real sweet? But then who's going to look under a car?

Thanks guys! Metco - that was the one I remember.

Rick - thanks for reaching out to them. I would be interested in getting one. Hopefully with a few of us interested it will be enough for them to build another batch.

Very happy with our Metco loop as well. Rick (at Metco) sent us one for test fitting before going retail and it is a well made product that requires no drilling and installs with simple hand tools. Hopefully Rick will offer them again with enough interest or perhaps a group buy.

X4 (or whatever the count is) on the Metco piece. I got in on the buy a couple years ago when they made a batch for us. If they aren't available now, hopefully they can be made available again. This is what it looks like on my Mk4. Bolts to the transmission frame. Mine required some spacers to best center on the driveshaft. It's a 5-link setup, so likely not the same for others. I've had no issues with how it goes around the 4 inch tube.

x5 to get one of these bolt on loops if possible. I will weld tabs on the frame if needed for the Forte loop but like this option.

A bunch of us were interested & Metco made a run of them, (early 2015?) don't know how many sets they made but the are a well done sturdy piece.

Regardless of what anyone does locating a supplier I would not go without one even if you need a local fabricator to one off a unit.

I called them back in 2015 when they were "no longer available" and they said if there was enough interest they would make them. I put a post up here. There was enough interest that then ended up making two runs.

Great piece. Bolts right up and no drilling holes in the frame.

They could have given me a discount for drumming up business. ;-)

What was the cause of that? What engine/HP are you running? Where did you source the driveshaft? Never seen welds like that around the shaft to yolk.

Cause: Weak weld due to heat stress (crystallized AL)

Source: MPE racing, now this is very important It was not their weld that broke or caused the failure. What happened is it was a 1/2 took long and the shaft was shortened. I believe that they threw it on the lathe and cut the weld and then just took a 1/2 inch out of the shaft and rewelded. This further crystallized the AL and caused the failure.

Engine/ hp: Rousch 427r 530hp/ 524 torque When it failed I was rolling away from a stop sign, not on it or in it by any means. 60 degrees out and cold tires, you don't play with. I was taking it to the interstate with my boy to run it out a little, nothing serious just taking it out.

The original weld which is on the other side, is much wider and overlaps the starting point. A very clean and well done weld.

I'm taking the drive shaft in this week and having a new one made. I haven't decided on the material that will be used. There will be a long conversation about this. The shop came recommended by a race/rod shop down here. They mainly specialize in drag cars is my understanding.

I welcome any input on this.

Back to the subject at hand, I am very lucky that I did not get hurt or my boy did not get hurt. What you see is the only damage besides a hole in the AL about the size of my pinky. It broke at the tranny end but a hoop still would of helped.

MDL2500 is the part number, and yes it fits a Mk4. I received mine back in July of 2014 with the last run based on a thread similar to this one. Interesting that Jegs says they have for immediate shipment. I've found for them this isn't always the case. Worth a try though.

Jegs does not have them in-stock. Their website is not accurate as the next possible ship date is 03/23 so that tells me they are getting it built to order.

I emailed Kristi as well so we'll see if they make a run of them. Looks like we have 5-6 interested already.

Ha... I went to place my order as the site said they still had stock and was told they just sold the last one....

Ordered through JEGS so will see if they had stock or if it was drop ship and they will tell me they don't have any.

Seems strange Metco would sell direct for $130 + $15 shipping and JEGS sells for $110 with free shipping.....

You'd think they would know where and what price thier products were selling for.

Looks like a good product and I like the bolt on aspect as I wasn't looking forward to taking a welder to my chassis for the Forte version although that is solid too.
