Quiet Pipes

I tried Oldtops method and it works, but needs repacking ofter at least for me, but still too loud. Went to quiet pipes from Breeze, got them ceramic coated and couldn't be happier.

Nice sound and very operator friendly.

Bringing up an old thread, but I'll be trying this soon. I (AND MY WIFE) can certainly tell that my pipes have a different sound than last year. My wife is now asking for ear plugs. 12,000+ miles so far, and I'm willing to try this solution. We like the loudness of the cobra, but there is a new harshness that wasn't there before.

Before you tell me to purchase new ones, I like the look of the surface rust sidepipes on my car, so I don't really want to purchase newer pipes yet. I did reach out to Georgie regarding Gas'N pipes in Carbon Steel, but they don't do it.

Anyway, I'll let you know what I learn.

Just add 7-8 inches of fiberglass pipe insulation to the turnout along with a piece of gutter screen and an end cap to hold it all in place. It has held up for over 3,000 miles on our MkIII Roadster.

You want the end cap hole a little smaller so the gutter screen won't fall out, say 2 1/8" - 2 1/4". For now I use a single piece of gutter screen 8" x 6" rolled in to a tube to hold the fiberglass in place. It's not a perfect solution but it is cheap. As for leaving the strainer basket on, it cuts the sound a lot, but kills performance.

You need 8" of circumference to make a 2.5" diameter "one-piece" tube. If you look closely at this picture you can see which direction the weave goes. Hope this helps.

guys.

The pot scrubber is loosely woven unlike a steelwool pad which would be way to much restriction.

Hey Dave,

Be sure to investigate the inserts (https://marineexhaust.ggb.ca) bobl identifies on the other forum (https://thefactoryfiveforum.com/show...s-discontinued). Could be just the ticket for keeping your wife happy.

Thanks John. I saw that thread and I went to that location first. But it also got me searching the forum, and I found this method. I think I'll try this low cost method first.
