Cascade Cobras Summer Tour July 30, 31st and August 1st

That time of year again to setup the Summer Tour.
The tour will be 2 or 3 days depending on your schedule and your ability to sit in your car.
The dates are July 30, 31st and August 1st.
This year we'll be going east and then south and west until we head for home.
Some of the routing we've seen before while some of it will be new for the club.
Day one will take us from Portland to LaGrande, day 2 from LaGrande to Sisters and day 3 back to Portland. Day 1 and 2 are about 270 miles each with day 3 being a around 150. To put the distances into perspective Portland to Medford is about 260.
Recommended lodging in LaGrande is the Best Western Rama Inn 541/963-3100 and in Sisters the Sisters Inn & Suites 541-549-7829. As always I encourage you to make reservations as soon as possible even if you're just thinking about making either the 3 or 2 day run. It's a lot less hassle to have a reservation and cancel it than it is to try to make one after the hotels are booked.
So, for those adventurous souls who want to blow the cobwebs off please sign on here (2 or 3 day) so I know how many to plan for and, depending on who you are DonN, how much we're going to have to set aside for bail or parts.
I'll try to update regularly so this doesn't fall by the wayside.
DonC

There is a great restaurant in La Grande, Tenth Street Depot. Nice mellow town off the freeway. Put me down for the 3 day.

Welcome aboard. As of right now you've been elected to find dinner for Friday evening.
Butch:
Would love to have a "native" along to help send up smoke signals if we take a wrong turn (I've never taken a wrong turn myself but I have a really good friend who's made a couple). Besides, Mel would look cute in a headdress and beads. So, you going to make it?

Donna and I are planning on attending this event if the event organizer actually goes this year, or even if he doesn't. Will Carolyn be joining us?

Yes the event organizer is planning on attending this year. Drove the top half of the route over to LaGrande today to check it for road conditions etc. and what I got to seems doable.
Not sure of Carolyn's schedule yet or how she's going to feel about another ride since she's doing the entire Colorado run with me this year. That's about 1000 miles of seat time in a week and a little beyond what she's done in the past so we'll have to see.
Chris and Donna welcome aboard. Always fun to have you along as long as we don't leave any intermediate stops without you (Think Maryhill last season). I'll try to remember to let you know whenever we leave a place.
Butch:
Just make yourself up a little hangman's noose and twirl it around your finger while they're making the jury selection. Almost always works. Hope you can attend.

Wouldn't miss this for anything! Peggy and I have gone on this EVERY SINGLE YEAR (both of them!) We will be doing the 2 day portion again and joining up with you on Saturday in Sisters. I'm planning to go over fairly early in the day because Peggy wants to do some "window shopping" in Sisters. Looking forward to this trip!

P.S. This year maybe the garage door will open and I can take the roadster.

Good to hear you and Elizabeth will be joining us. You, eh, her, everyone likes.
One of these days you're going to have to take a day off and make the extra day. Those planes will stay in the air even without you for a day, really.
I'll try and get you a small optional loop around Sisters. An easy one for after she wears you out shopping.

Russ:
The 2 day folks usually get together here and then wander over together. The 3 dayers meet the 2 dayers Sat. afternoon at the motel (in Sisters this year) then everyone has dinner and comes back together on Sunday.
Eric has been the lead for the 2 dayers for the last two outings and, with luck and maybe a small bribe, might be able to be swayed into doing it again.

Kathy and I are planning on going for the 3 day trip. We have a log home at Crooked River Ranch that we are planning on staying at for the 2nd night so we won't be in Sisters. We do have a 3 bedroom place and it is only about 20 to 25 minutes from Sisters so... if 2 singles or couples would like to use the other 2 bedrooms you are welcome. Just send me a PM. Bruce

I think the rooms are filled up with John M. (he hopes to have his car on the road for a good run by then) and Butch. I'll let you know if there are any changes.

restaurants in la grande

best overall ratings for dinner goes to Cinco de Mayo they have parking.
I liked 10th Street Depot but the ratings were not so good with the locals

for breakfast the only recommendation was the Smokehouse & Foley Station (expensive - fancy)

Butch, you know the area what do you recommend.

Rates -

LeGrande - 98.10 - I got the same rate as DonC
Sisters - 114 - I don't know what Don got but if we get 4 or 5 rooms the rate could drop to about 99. Let them know you're with Cascade Cobras when you book.

If anyone gets a better rate let us know.

Mel & I are looking for outdoor pools with a motel? It's gonna be hot over in that country that time of year! Would be nice to have a cool pool to swim in after a long hot drive.

Chris, where did you get the $114 rate? I booked a room at the Sisters Inn & Suites as DonC mentioned in the first post, and it was $149. I can always call and change it. Let me know where everyone is staying.

Sister Inn & Suites for $97!

Sisters Inn & Suites 541-549-7829. Sisters, Oregon
Guys, I just got a double queen room for $97
Brian the manager have me a smoking deal because I wanted a single queen or king, he didn't have any so he lowered the cost from $120 to $97 (single queen price). Worth a try.

Touch base with Eric on the 2 day. You can probably reach him here.
I'm in Co. so I'll kind of be out of touch until the 5th. Will check back in whenever I get a chance between now and then.

Russ, we will be doing the 2 day run again this year. Peggy and I would like to hook up with you and head over together. Let's see if we get any more takers for the 2 day and then we can plan where and when to meet on Sat. morn.

We were thinking about being in Sisters around lunch time because Peggy wants to do some "looking around" before the 3 day'ers roll into town. If that sounds good to you, maybe we can plan around that?

ANY OTHER 2 DAY'ERS?

Eric,

I intend to join the Cascade Cobras Summer Tour. I should know next week if it will be the 2 or 3 day version. I'll begin working on reservations.

I sent a reply to the welcome message I received from Bill, the FFCars.com administrator, notifying him that I do not have an Edit Signature choice on the Your Control Panel under User CP. The response was private messages are not answered. Perhaps someone else had the same situation and figured out how to come up with a Signature without the Edit Signature hyperlink on Your Control Panel, and will share the solution.

I had the same problem.
It solved itself when I just repeated clicking on User CP, after several tries it appeared under the "setting & options" section.

Thanks James, I just got off the phone with Brian and he helped me out too. I had to go back and cancel my reservation that I had made on-line and then called him back and he hooked me up. Saved me $60 over booking on-line.

I told Brian that there would probably be some more folks calling and he said (like Chris said earlier) to make sure and let him know that you are with the Club to get the discounted rate. So give him a call folks!

James460,

Thanks for the advice. I clicked on UserCP about 20 times with no luck. From time to time I'll try it again. I don't mind typing in a signature, but if the auto-signature worked with my computer, I'd use it.
