Kid's Go Cart Resources

My son will be turning 8 in September and for his birthday, I'd like to build a go cart with him. He's spent many hours in the garage with me during my cobra build and I know he will be thrilled to have a "car" of his own to build and work on.

I've found a variety of online resources (some look better than others), wondering if there are any good retailers or places to find build plans/design ideas in SoCal ?

thanks

While I was in limbo between the Bike and the Hot Rod i was itching for a project. I'd raced go karts in the past and was thinking some kind of kart or maybe a motorized bar stool. I found a used Stratos Kart online from one of those indoor places and totally refurbished it. It was much more fun than building one of those rinky dink go karts they sell online. I got the frame and bought a 6.5HP engine from Harbor Freight for $100 and it was awesome. Did about 25MPH and we had loads of fun running it around the neighborhood. There are tons of those cheap go karts on craigslist but you might want to get him something he can grow into and have some real fun with. I put about $800 into it and then sold it. I know it's a bit more advanced and you aren't building it from scratch but just a thought.

how about a twin

I build this little baby a while ago. Had to make my own frame to fit the body. I have a contact source for bodies in SoCal. I got one for Jeff Miller that he might be willing to part with. It's not a kit but if you are up to a little fab work you will have a one of a kind.

Erik,
I've been looking online for a decent frame to build upon. I just got a Harbor Freight coupon for a 6.5HP horizontal mount engine for $100. Seems like a good option.

Dan,
now that is awesome.

Thanks for posting guys.

body cost

KGS

The body is made by a shop out here in California. Talked to the owner today and he wants 350.00$ in gel coat.
Let me know if you have interest.
