Any SD events, etc between July 11-18th?

I'm setting up at Del Mar from 7/11-7/18. Wondering if there are any events happening? Or anyone wanna meet for a few beers? I'm there all week, without Nemo.

I'm gonna be there too. Got to go early to get a spot, like 1pm. There is supposed to be a reserved cobra area, don't remember where.

If you want a parking spot on the street (only for show vehicles) you should get there by 3PM.

If you want to showcase your car with the other Shelbys, then get there by 4PM, they have special corrals set up for the featured vehicles and they USUALLY have room for more cars.

I usually get there around 4PM and get directed to one of the special-mark corrals.

If you are just spectating, get there around 5PM and have dinner at one of the streetside restaurants and watch the parade go by.

I've never been to Escondido. Is it obvious where the cruise is? Can't find anything other than "cruising Grand", but Grand looks like a long street.

Cruising Grand

The Shelby and Pantera Clubs will be parking in the feature car area which is on Broadway, south of Grand. If you exit I 15 at Valley Parkway and head east, you will come to Broadway on your left. (Valley Parkway becomes 2nd ave and is one-way East Bound.) If you're driving a Cobra, Shelby Mustang or Pantera they should let you in! See you there.

What time is the parade?
What time does everyone leave?

I might not get there till 8pm, is it worth going that late?

There's no formal parade, but Grand is open for cuising during the entire event. It usually starts to break up b 9 pm or so.

It's a cool, well attended event, but not sure it would be worth the trek from Burbank unless you were spending the weekend.

By the way...Cobra Club plans to do a 'fire em up' tribute to Shelby at 6:55pm.

No! That's too late. Escondido rolls up the sidewalks at 9 PM. And the last car to leave turns out the lights.

Weather watch:

If it is raining, all bets are off! We'll be checking the weather around 3PM. Will reevaluate at that time.

Marty, you're still a perv!

Update: Looks like the weather cooperated. Hot and humid, but no showers. We're on our way at 4:00pm. See you guys there. We're In the blue car!

Dozens showed up. There were even 4 originals. Huge crowd and turnout. Good to see so many cars.

Great seeing everybody, maybe next time we will get to see Nemo.

I had a great time. I too was looking forward to seeing Nemo in person. Next time. BTW, one of those "Originals" had a vin of CSX4xxx. Isn't that a continuation replica?

Yep. Anything with a CSX number starting with a 4 or higher is a replica per the Massachusetts Court:

"In 1992, Shelby began to produce “continuations” or replicas of the original Cobras, including the Cobra 427S/C, primarily in kit form. Shelby 2001 at 88-89; Shelby2009 at 9. A kit typically includes a chassis and body, but the purchaser is then required to assemble and complete
the car with a transmission and engine and possibly other parts. Mr. Shelby identified the replicas of the Cobra 427 S/C with the designation CSX 4000. Shelby 2009 at 55. Shelby has sold the Cobra replica kits for $50,000 to $150,000. Shelby 2001 at 88-89. Between 2002 and 2009, Shelby, and its licensees, produced between 100-300 Cobras per year, including an unspecified number of Cobra 427 S/Cs continuations or replicas. Shelby 2009 at 9, 16 and 78-79. As of the date of Mr. Shelby’s 2009 testimony, only one company, Superformance Intl. Inc., was producing the Cobra replicas under license from Shelby.

page-39

...including continuations by applicant and replicas by third parties, are replicas of a car which was produced nearly four decades earlier, and (2) the fact that both applicant and the unauthorized third parties sell the replicas primarily in kit form. In his testimony Dr. Jacoby seems to be unaware of the fact that the Shelby Cobra “continuations” were replicas in spite of the fact that he conducted a survey"

applicant = Shelby

The nerve of some people.

Trying to pass a kit car off as an original.

I finally found the cars right as the tribute started:

Talked to one FFR owner, saw the original white/blue one across the street. The others were csx4,5,7's

What a cool cruise spot! Wish I lived near enough to drive Nemo. Someday maybe.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but two of the 4 (real cobras) had leaf spring front suspensions.

I didn't realize any continuation cars had been made with leaf springs and not coil overs.

There were three 289's and one 427. The green 427 is the one I looked at the vin and was 4000 series.

The white was CSX2237, original.

The green was a 4000.
