Is there anyone with a Coupe in So Cal willing to let me sit in it? The few times I've seen these cars, I've really admired them. I never considered the possibility of owning one until now. It looks like an option. Before getting too attached to the idea, I'd like to make sure it feels like something I could drive (DO NOT want to drive yours - just sit in it). We already know Mike doesn't fit well, but would I? Thanks in advance!
He's already made it clear my stuff won't be as good as his (except for the brakes). I can have Webers, but they have to be the cheaper ones. He was only willing to let me have a 302, but I think I've talked him into a 351. This is the part where everyone will hate me. It would have to be an automatic trans. I know. Sorry! Paint is another huge issue. He wants blue. While I agree that blue is gorgeous, I have my eye on another color scheme. Alyssa already has these cars all planned out. She announced this weekend that we will be taking her and her (to be decided) prom date in the FFR cars. HE will be driven by Mike in the Roadster and SHE will be driven by me in the Coupe. I'm wondering how Mike is going to fit the shotgun into the car though. He might want to plan that out now before the body gets back from paint.
Okay on the 347, but still have my mind set on MY color scheme. Sort of a pewter and black. Haven't actually seen one, but then haven't really done any research either.
I see you are in Alaska. Gorgeous state!!!!! I was just looking at the coupe owner's map this morning and I yelled to Mike (he was in another room) that there are a couple of coupes in Alaska. I assumed the weather wouldn't allow for too much driving and I've heard some of the roads are pretty bad. Are you able to take it out much?
We have a good group of FFR/ERA/SPF owners up here. This summer has been wet and cool, but I've put a few miles on our Coupe. I take the kids out at least once or twice a week. The roads may not be the best, but they are the most scenic in the Northern Hemisphere! (at least I think so..)
If you guys make it up here, look us up!

I haven't been to Anchorage. We went on a cruise a couple years ago and found we absolutely LOVED Sitka. Gorgeous area. Of course, there isn't an unattractive spot in Alaska as far as I know. Utah is another state I like a lot, but my memories are from my early childhood, so hard to know if they are reliable.
We didn't have a gocart party, but we are hoping to do something around the time the body gets back from paint. Of course, if we don't get the car ready in time, we may have a frantic last minute HELP US FINISH party. Anyway, you guys don't have to wait for a party to come by. You are welcome anytime.
Mike tried to teach me to drive a stick using the Jeep (won't let me near the driver's side of the Cobra). It didn't go so well. We live in a hilly area and I have committment issues. It's a lot safer for everyone on the road if I stick with an automatic.
And get the color and transmission that you want, never mind what anyone else says.
But what did you mean by the cheaper Webers?

I don't know what I meant. I mean, I KNOW, but I don't know technically what I mean. For the roadster, we got Webers from Jim Inglese (he's great, by the way). Mike said for the Coupe, I could have the stacks that look like that, but whatever the cheaper version his. I didn't pay much attention because I figured as long as they look all blingy and stacky, I didn't really care where they came from. I know, such a woman.
My biggest problem for the color is sneaking it past Mike. I could beg Jeff to paint it any shade and hopefully he'd do it, but how do I hide it from Mike?? I have to also point out that the color looks amazing in my brain. Doesn't mean it would in real life. I'll have to do some research. Got plenty of time considering we can't afford a coupe unless Mike sells more stuff and then there is the wait from the time you order until you receive it and then all that building that has to be done before you really have to worry about a color. The automatic trans isn't really an option. It has to be or Mike will have two cars to drive. He's talented, but not THAT good.
I have an automatic in my roadster and love it. You can get one with a manual valve body, that way you get to shift every gear without the clutch hassle. I planning on a coupe some day and it will have an auto trans (and twin turbos) as well. Cheers.
but still have my mind set on MY color scheme. Sort of a pewter and black. Haven't actually seen one, but then haven't really done any research either.
Something like Alan's coupe?
Gorgeous car.

I love this forum. I thought for sure I'd get screamed at and possibly banned for even suggesting an automatic. Look how helpful everyone is. Thank you!
I read something about there being an issue with IRS and an automatic. I guess we probably just need to do a ton of research and figure out what'll work best. I'm really excited about the idea of building a coupe, but I still want to sit in one first to make sure. Xlr8or is going to let me sit in his Saturday morning. Can hardly wait. I'm really excited. Isn't it Friday yet????
Should probably ride in and enjoy our completed roadster before jumping into another build. The coupe (which I plan to name Coupey - Coupey and Scoopy ) will have to wait for several months.
Dallas, that's definitely what I had in mind. We saw a Challenger on the road last week that was the exact color in my head. I almost fell out of the truck from staring so intently.
Wish that one was local so I could see the color in person. I like it, but I think I'm looking for more of a contrast between the base color and the stripes. I don't know. I like that a lot.
first of all, no hiding anything when you post on a forum that i visit every 10 minutes.
Blue and white rocks on these cars!
David, wish we had more time to talk when we met. I get overwhelmed when i see that many cool things at one time and i turn into a zombie for days on end after.
thomas, what trans did you use and what about driveshaft? IRS?
We want to do irs this time around, simply becuase we want a different build then the roadster. I think we have a good plan on this one.
cheaper webers means getting a setup that has not been messaged by jim. Saves about 1k or more that way. But mainly i get to play with them and learn about them a bit better.

Nothing wrong with blue, but I like to be a little different. The car in my mind is closer to that second picture, but with more of a gold tint to the silver or gray. I found a picture of a different kind of car, but I'm on my iPad and can't figure out how to copy and paste. I'll try to find it again tomorrow when I'm at my work computer.
I can't find the same picture I was looking at last night and the colors are different on this monitor, but an approximate color is below. Not the car, just the color. I have to admit, though, while looking for the right color, I found a few more pictures of coupes painted blue. So dang tough. Maybe blue IS the way to go. Oh well. Plenty of time to decide. For the record, the kids like a darker color more like the earlier pictures posted above.
Red with white stripes sure is nice... Just sayin.

I like red and white, but Scoopy is going to be red and silver/gray/black. I would like a variety of colors. That's another problem though. We have a green Jeep, an orange Challenger, a grey truck and Alyssa's seafoam green Ford. The roadster will be red. Poor coupe has a rainbow of colors to try not to clash with. We have to rearrange how we park everything so it doesn't look like clownville around here.
If your ever near Anaheim Hills you are welcome to sit in mine. It's pretty bare bones inside, but it is a coupe.

If you guys happen to be down here in SD or want to run down on the weekend let me know and you can sit in it and we can go for a ride.
Thanks for taking julie out today, she loved the ride even though she says you drive like a maniac
I think we are going to build one of these, just need to get through a couple things on our roadster first and we will hopefully getting one soon after.

Thanks for the offers. I wanted to do a California tour and sit in all of them, but Mike kept whining that I was supposed to be working on OUR car. Whatever.
Scott, I can't thank you enough for the ride today. I'm still smiling. I was impressed by the entire experience and I have to say that you handle the car like a pro. There is no longer any doubt in my mind that I waaaaaaant one. Thrilled to know that I fit with no problems. Don't think I'll ever have the intestinal fortitude to go 80 around a corner, but comforting to know the car can handle it if I decide to.
