Coupes at David Murry Track Days - NJMP Thunderbolt 6/28-29

Thought you guys might appreciate what I posted on the other forum. We're still only running open track events but finally getting to the point of reliability and consistency in our lap times that we can pretend that we are racers. I highly recommend the David Murry events if you want tons of track time and some pointers from a great driver who knows how to teach.

Hey guys, sorry it took so long for us to get these videos pulled together but better late than never and not a bad way to start the week off. Thanks to Craig for making it happen with all of the data overlay and multi camera synchronization!

This was our first time running with David Murry Trackdays and we have nothing but great things to report. David Murry Track Days The event has all the good aspects of experienced open track events with 10+ hours of open track time spread over 2 days, but you also get to sit one on one with David Murry and get his expert advice on how to improve your lap times.

I showed David my best 2 laps (without chicane) where I had managed to go 1:36:3 back to back. He gave me some key pointers that allowed me to shave over 4 seconds off with the 1:32:00 in these videos (lap starts around 19 minute mark on #9 video). Yes, part of it was pushing harder than ever on the last run of the day (nearly missed Turn 1 a couple times!) but his advice gave me comfort of where I could push more the most, for example (A) in the right/left combo after the uphill rise, (B) exiting wider coming out of the "lightbulb" (slow left hander) which makes you fight through the very slight "esses" but carry more speed and (C) preloading the car before coming onto the front straight (a slight left/right before getting to the bridge).

Best of all, the cars were completely reliable for 2 days and we had a great time. Next stop Watkins Glen with Group 52 on August 1-2.

Nice!

Where'd the Cameros come from and go?

Rich, the Camaros were there testing for the ARCA/SCCA race events planned for that weekend. Yeah, they were fast...good motivation, but wish we could have hung a bit closer to them!

Karen, we took your lead last year and went with RacePak G2X. We maxed out the optional sensor ports with Water Temp, Oil Temp, Oil Pressure, Fuel Pressure, and R/L wideband O2 sensors. Has worked great for us and the real time support from RacePak has been helpful with any issues we have had with calibration, setup.

The cameras are made by Contour...records up to 1080P (which does require a pretty powerful computer to view/edit) and the latest version has 170 degree wide angle lens (in #56), while my older version is 135 degree. They had some problems with the earlier versions but were good with warranty and Craig's newest one seems fine and runs about $200, plus another $50 or so for bigger memory card and mounting hardware. We're using the suction cup mount off the back of the car. Contour | Products | Contour Roam

The magic of pulling it all together is Craig staying up all night to get everything synchronized! Not sure where he got the dashboard used on these videos (maybe John George?) but I am pretty sure he's using Nero to do the video synch.
