You will eventually want spare wheels and maybe some rain tires. Spare brake pads are a good idea and it doesnít hurt to have rotors too.

Youíll also need some rivets (you *will* knock the air dam off) and wire tires.

Getting air bubbles out of the cooling system can be tough too so itís a good idea to have a spare racing valve cap (get one that is rated for 22-24 lbs).

Beyond that the spec racer community is pretty friendly with each other. There is usually someone with a spare transmission or other key parts such as a water pump, head gaskets, alternator, etc. Failures are pretty infrequent, but if something goes wrong, most competitors will loan you a replacement for the weekend or sell you what they have to get you back on the track. As you build your spares inventory you can join in helping others with spare parts too. One good thing about these cars is that most of the parts are commonly available and the nearby auto-supply place.

For tools youíll need the usual assortment of wrenches including torque wrenches. (Generally most people torque their wheels to 85 foot-lbs.) For the rear brake calipers, youíll probably want a special tool that lets you rotate the cylinder back into the housing. Harbor Freight and your Ford dealer will have these tools. A battery powered drill can be used for both holes for rivets and to speed up removal of lug nuts.

A lightweight tent isnít a bad idea either. You never know will rain will show up.

Here is the list of spare parts that we carry. Itís by no means necessary to have all of this and it isnít a complete list of everything you might need. But it will help you get started:
