We are also adding brake cooling ducts for the front disks and am looking for a source on high-temp 3" diameter hose. I've seen the double walled orange silicone stuff used but it's pricey.... has anyone ever used high-temp aluminum dryer hose with any success? We are also planning on running in-line marine blowers with these hoses to keep the brakes as cool as possible.

why high temp? Seems the air inside would be cool air.

Some of the black plastic drain hose from home depot should work fine...the stuff they sell in the area where the pvc pipe is.

Do you really need blowers? The brakes would only heat up when your moving and you'll have air flowing through the hose just from moving.

Chris - I've used the exact plan you have with the aluminum 3" hose and blowers and it worked great. The only caveat is that the aluminum hose is not very resilient when it comes to any sort of impact. It dents and then comes apart after a while. The high-temp silicone hose is the best but very pricey. You can get it from almost any racing supply house. Check with your local circle-track folks or check with Pegasus Racing online.

To Dan's point about the blowers.

If you check the nose of any Nextel Cup car that is setup to run at Martinsville You will find as many as 8 blowers for the front brakes alone. The blowers do help even when you're moving..

You're building a car, for Pete's sake, and probably a nice one. Why the heck do you want plumbing parts from Home Cheapo? Go to Aircraft Spruce and get some SCAT ducting. Yes, it'll probably cost $25 for the front brakes, but it's made for the purpose.

Larry,
High temp due to it's proximity to the rotor which gets nice and toasty.

Joe,
The car is a dedicated track car so as long as it works, is not a safety issue and can last a dozen track day events per year then I'm good with that. I'll check out your link. Thanks.

The design will probably have the main hose feed the center of the rotor thru a mounted backing plate. We are also looking at adding a second hose to feed air right onto just the caliper to keep fluid temps down. Overkil? Probably, but the last thing I want on track is faded brakes.

You don't need high temp hose. The disks are never close enough to influence the material of your ductwork. I used shop vacuum hose several years ago and it's fine. A fraction of the cost of "racing hose."
