Thanks,

I just rewired the whole thing using toggle switches on the dash. It is really easy. This way all switches match.

I found these at Lowes in the hardware boxes. They are bakelite material - cost maybe $2.35 each. They had a brass threaded hole in the back. I just drilled it out and there was enough 'meat' to solidly grip the 'D' shaped insert thingy I took off the V/A knobs.

I got some knobs from Billet Specialties (an advertiser in Street Rodder magazine). I originally bought them for another project, but since I had them, I decided to use them to replace those cheesy plastic ones.

I wasn't too thrilled with them either. I scraped off the chrome except on the pointer.
Not the perfect solution but it had one advantage.
It was free.

Jamesfast,
I got some nice looking knurled aluminum knobs that I used on my headlight switch and heater controls at Radio Shack. Inexpensive and much better looking than the standard ones.

Hi James,
Whan I did up the knobs for my dash I changed my mind mid-stream and went with a bit of a different design. But I had made a few of the original design and your more than welcome to them if you want. They are 1" diameter and 1/2" deep with a 3/16" shaft hole (I can make the hole bigger but not smaller if you want). They are held on the shaft with an allen head set screw on one side. Here's a pic but the ones I would send do not have the indicator hole drilled (i.e. plain face) so they would look like the one on the right. Will send you a couple for the price of shipping (<$5 for reg mail = 2-3 weeks).

Cheers, Rod

James,
The knobs that Rod will send you for the cost of shipping look just like the Rack Shack ones I mentioned except Rod's price is much better. Grab them if you don't need them right away.

Radio Shack has nice looking but plastic knobs.
Mouser has a huge selection and quick shipment. I got some black anodized steel knobs from them:

Mouser black anodized knobs all hidden inside shallow glovebox. Controls mounted between the squirel cage fans. Master heat/ac off switch located by the steering wheel turns unit off quickly (you know why) without accessing the glovebox controls.
