Are there any drawbacks to using an60's 289ci in an FFR? Will modern transmissions attach with any problems?

Not as long as it has 6 bolts for the bell housing. Pre 66 engines (most) had 5 bolts which is not very well supported. 6 bolts are obviously stronger and easier to fit.

An old 289 has a differnt bellhousing bolt pattern and assocaiated block plate. I don't recall which is 5 and which is 6 but I suspect it was a 5 bolt block. I think late 60's on they used 6 bolt.

If I remember right on 260's and 289's one of the front intake bolts has a lower torque because it bolts to an ear on the block. I think sometimes these can leak or crack. Everyone I'm sure would agree they are great engines, period correct and cool!
