sbf intake ?s

I'm planning my winter upgrades...

I've got a 90 model donor engine, could I use a 94/95 Cobra intake? for some reason they seem to be cheaper than the either the 93 cobras or the explorer intakes.

Thanks

Jim

I would not. You may need to change the throttle body and other things if you do. Stick with the 87-93 stuff.

Think about finding an entire '97 to 2000 Explorer or '97 to 2001 Mountaineer engine.

I got a '97 Explorer engine for $350. Turned out the block was bad, however, I'm using the GT-40p heads and GT-40 intake system from that engine on an '89 Mustang 302 block.

The GT-40p heads are the best flowing Ford stock heads and the GT-40 intake system is the same as the '93 Cobra Mustang intake, the aluminum casting just looks a bit different from the outside. Exact simple bolt on and MAF is calibrated for the stock 19lb.hr. injectors but a bit larger for better air flow. Use the standard '89 to '93 Mustang EEC-IV, A9L computer.

I believe you can get a replacement EGR plate the will have the proper throttle hook up. I'm not there yet.

When looking at the '97 engine be sure it's not an early '97. The change from GT-40 heads to the GT-40p heads took place a few months into the '97 production year. You can ID the GT-40p head because it has 4 raised ridges on the front/back of the head as opposed three ridges on the GT-40 heads.

more ?s

so the gt40p is better than the gt40? I need to decide how much power I'm going for & then build to that level I think.... I'd LOVE to run an 11second quarter. I dont know if ported E7s, GT40s, GT40ps would get me to that level?

one of the gt40s has a funny spark plug angle, right?

also any issues with any of these heads on my 4 into 4 headers?

The GT-40p is a better flowing head.

Yes, the GT-40p head has different spark plug angles and they may interfere with the headers. Do some research as I think you can work with them a bit to use them.

I am using the GT-40p heads, Ford Racing shorty headers(they work with the Gt-40p head), GT-40 intake on a 302 bored to 306. A stage one Trick Flow cam with new Trick Flow valve springs, balanced and am hoping for around 300 hp +.
