I think I found the major malfunction...though I'm not convinced I'm on timing either.
I replaced rotor and cap and decided to regap/check the gap on the plugs. On cylinders 2 & 3, the insulator on the plug end had come loose and was resting against the electrode thus essentially eliminating the spark. The plugs were clean as if they had not been firing. So, that explains the miss. Other plugs look fine. Light Brownish color.
So, with proper operation of the plugs (the brownish color) but still strong smell, I am thinking timing is not where it should be? I'm shooting for 14 BTDC but had a buddy set it while I was in the car. Going to recheck that next.
Ideas? Am I headed off on a tangent?
Chris Richards said to give him a call, but he didn't pick up yesterday...not sure how they weathered the storm.
New plugs are in...car runs smooth, idles fine...but still stinks to high heaven!
