Inner Tie Rod, how do I remove it???
History;
2009 full 65 coupe kit, but using a AutoZone 1993 PS rack
94-95 straight arm spindles, and FFR tie rod ends
I am trying to remove the inner tie rods form the rack to install the extensions.
I have put about 50lbs of pressure on the inner tie rod nut in the regular loosening direction, but before I get out the BFH I though I would post here.
I don't see a pin in that hole holding anything but I've been wrong before
The awesome manual says "Pull back the boot and remove the inner tie rod from the steering rack"
Here's what I'm looking at; [/URL]
Also I plan on using urethane offset bushings just cause i have a set from a mustang build, and I assume that you would use them to lower the rack, hopefully putting it better parallel alignment w the LCA's?
Thanks in advance for any info.

I put the rack in the vise and used a BF wrench. I seem to recall a rivit in the hole that made running the end off a bit difficult. Probably abit more than 50 pounds needed.
Thanks for the reply's, guys. I put the rack in the vice and using a BFH and a BF wrench was able to get the inner tie rods unscrewed. The Autozone rebuild didn't have any pins, but the holes were there so I imagine the factory untouched ones do.
I used copious amounts of loctite red on all the joining threads, installed the extenders , and set it to dead center. I got a 3 turn lock to lock.
Now we will see if I need to cut the tie rods at all. Sounds like I will but we will see.

I don't know your exact set up but you probably do not want to put the lowering bushings in the rack. Having the steering arms parallel to the lower arms would only be optimal if they are the same height off the ground.

Seems like most of us trimmed the inner tie rods a little just enough to get the outer tie rods to be at 1/16" total toe-in. Mine, prior to trimming, could not even get in the ballpark of 1/16" toe-in on initial mock up.
