Color Sanding

I need advise on this step. I believe the sanding should be with 2000 grit wet followed by #2 Maguires fine cut and finished with a quality wax. I have been told to only use 2500 grit for the wet sand followed by a course rubbing compound then a#2 fine cut followed by a quality wax I am not a pro so I need advise on this. I do have time so speed is not a concern. Any detail or paint experts out there....HELP before I screw something up.... Oh the color is HOK mystic gray (dark gray) with clear over.

Depends on how much clear you put on the car. If three coats or more, first 1500 with soft block sander on the flats and sponge over the curves. Then repeat with 2000. If you have the wearwithall repeat again with 3000. Then polish with 3m fine cut and then swirl remover and wax with Zainos. if you do the 3000 grit step it removes all the scratches from the 1500 and 2000 sanding. It will almost be finished after that step. If you don't, you'll have to work a little harder with the buffer.

+1 on Robert's advice. Start with 1500, step up to 2000 and then finish with 2500 or 3000 (with a DA if you have one). This will really make the buffing and polishing steps a lot easier.

Try Meguiar's new M105 compound and M205 polish. They work really well. Speeds up the buffing process a lot.
