I've been looking online for an in-dash accessory socket to put in my MK1 and I only see one that is too thin in the mounting shield to hold the dash padding. Can anyone give me a link to what they used?

Thanks,
My local o-reilly's sells about 4 different kinds. I actually bought Mike Everson's under dash panel, which is an awesome addition anyway, removed the housing, drilled my own holes and mounted it there.
Even if you don't do/have the panel, this might give you an idea. You can see one of the ones I used. I also have a double one on the other side.
I think that one came with a front cover too. Where are you trying to mount it?

I was planning on mounting it on the dash to the right of my existing switches. The one I picked up at Advance Auto Parts has the same back as yours but on the front there's almost no lip so there's not enough face to hold the vinyl in place. I've seen the marine ones which have enough face on the front but I was hoping to find one that looks like a standard auto one.
I like the idea of mounting it under-dash I don't have the full underdash like that, but maybe I'll see if there's a spot on one of the supports I could attach it to.

One solution would be to take a dremel, and make small wings that you could "fold down" to make more of a lip, but you can probably find one that's already got that. You might also checkout the options for grommets at the local hardware store, chances are you'll find one that will work to fit over it and make it a better fit.
The dual one I have on the other side has nice mounting hardware, etc.
The single one is actually 2 piece and unscrews, fits into the hole, then screws back together to lock it in.

We have one under the dash (Mike's under dash panel) and my iphone charge is alittle loose. I don't know if it's because of the vertical placement. Anyone else experience this? While the body is off for painting, we're redoing the dash with wood. I may look at a horizontal mount for the 12v accessory.
I also want to add one to the trunk, while everything is exposed. Any wiring issues that far back?
