Well I bought the car in 1992 and took it partially apart then. Seems like it got lost with customer projects and other distractions. Now it is pretty much done. Factory air but I replaced with a compact unit. Factory automatic which is really rare. Everything is either new or rebuilt. Numbers matching, blah blah blah. If I get the interior back together I will add a couple of pix of that later. Cheers Richard.

Thanks for all the kind words. I know you guys get it. Especially Perl and Blacksnake.
As anyone who has done this knows it seems to never end. All new stainless lines for brakes and fuel, new sender in tank, new vent hoses, etc etc. Anyway, we chased and oil leak for weeks. Then a transmission leak and operation problem, would not go into 3rd gear (no overdrive in 1970), the new modulator valve was bad. I/we futzed with the horn, on an off for a day turned out to be a bad switch on the column and a blown fuse. The headlights are now on a relay, as are the marker lights. Integrating the newer style AC was a bit of fun (NOT), making it work with the stock controls was the hardest part, but it now looks like a NON AC car on the inside, the factory was a suck through evaporator and did not work worth a crap. New carpet, new seat covers new dash. The list is just about endless of this stuff. I had a parts car which helped as it was intact when I started to put the yellow car back together. I can not tell you how many times I went back and forth using the parts car as an owners manual.
Keeping track of all the little parts, all metric of course, is a pain, we went through and entire sleeve of lunch bags and still had to buy some bits here and there. Classic z cars .com is about as great a place as this place is and they have all been very helpful.
I plan on a couple of shake downs later this week, I have a rear brake dragging (know the problem the parts got thrown around a bunch at the blaster so the drum is dragging on the backing plate, I wanted to let it rub a little so I can see where to bend it back, I plan to fix that on Friday. It is legal and insured but 104 degrees today, not driving it in shakedown when it is this hot.
Anyway, thanks again for the kind words. Cheers Richard.

Richard, I had a 1972 240 for a ton of years before the Cobra. These were great cars with even better handling with some modifications. Yours looks like a great car but an Auto, REALLY? Dude!

I have enough stuff that is fast and with a stick. The car is a really early automatic and if had been hacked already I would have swapped it to a 5 speed but it is too nice and too original and too low a number to molest. JMHO, Richard.

THe car look great, hope to see it on the road after all the bugs are worked out!! Thats half the fun NOT, the wagon is almost all the way shook out LOL

Man do you have that right. I drove it 50 miles on Sunday. It ran fine for the most part, but now the garage smells like gas. The fuel system is almost all new so I have to find the leak, nothing on the floor. The rear diff is making some noise so it will have to come out for the third time. It is easy to remove with the lift. Tach does not work, not that I need it with the auto.
The bugs of building are a pain, just when you think you are done, you are not done. Of course I had the interior "rivets" not all the way in and my wife pushed them in when cleaning now I will lose most of the stems and have to get new ones to inspect the fuel system.
The Wagon will get more pix, but that will not be until the winter. Richard.

Sorry you are having problems and thanks for the heads up. I am so focused on just getting mine to run that I have to keep in mind that there will be things like what you are experiencing to deal with after the car “Looks” like it is done. I am looking forward to the wagon build in the winter.

None of the problems are really unexpected, having done builds for a while there are always bugs, so you have to know they are coming. I have not looked at it since Sunday. Busy with other stuff.
The guy that works for me is coming later this week to 'hear' the rear end. We will find the problems and fix them. In reality they are minor compared to the work so far. The frustration comes in trying your best to do everything right and still having problems. But that is what it takes to do restoration. I am pretty sure I have more in it than it is worth but like my wife says, better the cars than the bars. I drink at home, cheaper than any DUI. LOL.
Again thanks for the support and the kind words. This is my 4th Z so I know them pretty well but there is never anything easy with a 40 plus year old car. Cheers Richard.

Well the last idiot who installed the diff (oops that was me) left the rear mounts loose, there is still a vibration but it is much, much better. I am going to have the tires rebalanced and probably have the driveshaft balanced. The early cars had some vibration issues as the diff is further forward than on the later cars. They moved the diff back two inches in 72. So it may be something I have to live with but it will have to get better, none of the other early cars i had were this bad.
Took a little pressure out of the AC and it works much better too. Over charged it by about 30 PSI so it was triggering the High side of the binary switch. Did not count on 100 plus out side and it pushed the pressures way up.
Wayne, the SUs seem pretty good, best thing I did was the Petronix to wake up the ignition system. Starts easier, runs better. I have a slight surge at about 3k but it is very hard to feel and only when it is really warm out. Going to fix the vibration first and then work on drivability which is pretty good so far. It will run down the road at 70 no problem.
Found the fuel leak,(garage smelled really bad of fuel) one of the vent hoses was cracked (there are 4 or 5). I will replace it later, but for now just shortened it. I also over filled the fuel tank car which caused some of this. The other problem is the hoses are not rated for ethanol. So some swapping of hoses will be in order, but I have to get some of the fuel out first, put another 50 miles on it today and it was better. I still owe some interior shots.
