The A/C turns off on my '01 Tahoe when I'm sitting idling for extended periods.....then takes quite a while to "come back on". Fan still runs, the "light" in the switch stays on.....just hot air. It seems to be cold enough when it's working.
Any ideas on what's wrong, and maybe what's the first thing to check?
Thanks!

The other thing it could be is the high side getting too high due to lack of airflow. Check your fans if it is electric maybe its not working or if a clutch fan the clutch may be not engaging.
Had the system gone over....they added "a little" refrigerant and some dye for future troubleshooting, and didn't find any obvious leaks. Fans seem to be working ok. Have driven it less than a week and it's still done the same thing several times. Any more ideas?
Thanks!

check to see if you have power to the a/c clutch when the ac starts to get warm if you do the clutch may be on its way out, if you dont have power the evap coil may be freezing up and shutting down, does the water drain out maby your drain is clogged with debri.

I checked the drain and it seems to be clear. Blew it out with air and felt flow all the way thru. When its working, it seems to work fine and the air is nice and cold.
Any other ideas? Any of the switches or sensors that might give this problem (pressure, temp, etc.)? Any way to check?
Thanks!

Check the mechanical fan to make sure the clutch on the fan is not out. It will still turn just not move enough air to keep the flow over the condensor. My bet, like the others, is it is cutting off from a high (my bet) or low pressure switch issue. When it does go straight to the place and let it run until it does it again. JMHO, Richard.

Just to close this out (hopefully!), they couldn't find anything definitive, but they went ahead and changed out the Lo Pressure Switch.
So far, it seems to have done the trick!
