Started working on this project last week along side a GTM. This is a Ferrari California Spyder replica. The manufacturer of the kit is having me get it ready for the Carlisle kit car show. It will be getting a Chevy 350 engine and five speed transmission. This kit comes assembled and painted like you see it for 20K Not too shabby. Very high quality fiberglass work. Nice interior etc.
Wow, $20k as it sits, assembled? Is that really paint or just gelcoat? This guy is going to be *busy* at that price. Is he prepared for litigation from Italy?
I'd almost say "I'm in" at that price, but have the G3F cooking ever so slowly in the background. The Cal Spyder is another prime candidate for a V12 setup... Please keep us posted with pics of the build-up!
Cheers, John

$20K? Is he even making a profit? You pay almost that for a regular FFR, and you still have to do a ton of work. What is the name of this company?

I'd love to here an unbiasedreview of the car. The California Spyder has always been one of my favorite cars (yes, from watching Ferris Buellers Day off as a teenager). I had looked at the CalSpyderII, but it was a little to expensive, and they didn't have a build manual (and it would of been my first time building a car, I was a bit nervous, about that), so I passed. I then bid on the Modena that you sold. Then I ended up buying the Factory 5 Hot Rod, but ended up having to sell when I got divorced. A while ago (2009) I did hear about Automobile Addiction, and contacted them, but all I got back was some marketing fluff and an order form. I definitely wasn't in a position to buy then, so I didn't push for more information. I do remember that the kits were being shipped over from Hong Kong, and the price didn't include shipping from HK to their US location (NJ, if I remember correctly)

An intriguing car. Proper door handles, bumpers and period correct low-back seats would go a long way to improving this car's overall appearance, though.
I wonder if anything can be done on the engine front, to get something "ferrari sounding" under the hood at a reasonable cost.
Mike - would there be enough room to plumb-in some 180-degree headers on an american smallblock?

Both Mercedes and BMW V12s can be had at very reasonable prices. Not sure if it can be made to fit, but hey, it squeezed under my FFR hood. That was my first thought when I saw this car. Plus, a painted roller at $20k is a bargain by any measure. I think it has tons of potential -- if I weren't in the G3F beta, I would be taking a hard look at this.
Cheers, John

to me this seems like a great idea. I don't know what it would take to make it fit Z(or even if one of those could fit), but it fits the "spirit" of the car.
John, I'd love to hear more about your car, what it took to make it fit, what tranny did you mate it to, what ECU are you using, etc. Did you have a build thread here on the forum?

Mike could we see it with the top and windows up? BMW V12 sounds good to me. I need to flip some cars and see if i can come up with the jack to make it work.
Gregg
I uploaded some pictures which I believe are of a sister car from the same company that was being sold on ebay a while back. I'm not positive that it from the same manufactorer that one one that Mike is building, but it sure looks like it.

Trans and ECU are your biggest expenses as far as off-the shelf parts, and then you hav stuff like adapters for driveshafts and rear differentials. The engines are cheap.
Cheers, John

I am sorry there is no way I would buy that POS Chinese made crap car..I wonder what your survival rate would be if you got into an accident with one??? Think about it..Would you trust the welds on the frame from not snapping like a pair of wooden chopsticks after you have put on a couple of miles..Sorry I would stay far away....
I need to get over to this other car forum more often.
As long as the quality is reasonable on this kit, a Ferrari kit for 20k painted is a bargain if you ask me. So, it comes with the interior done as well???? Seems too good to be true.
So all one has to do is drop in an engine, tranny, and be done???
Gotta agree with John, a BMW or Mercedes V12 would be pure sweetness in one of these.

Look's like they've upped the ante a bit, from making Rolex replicas.
Boy - That's no kidding....
One of my pet peeves with Stuff made in China though - is how poor their metals are.. Iron and Steel as well as Zinc Die-castings.. Plating is also typically quite crappy.
