Need help with fast idle

I need some advice on getting my Holley carb working. I rebuilt my Holley 600cfm carb and now I cant get it to idle down? It runs at fast idle and when I go to turn down the idle screew it dies. The choke is working closed at start up and opens as the motor warms up. Carb are not my strong piont but I was able to rebuild it. Thanks in advance for any help before I take it to the carb shop on Monday. Robert

Check your throttle cable. Make sure it's not holding the throttle plates open. Then check the choke cam and adjustments to make sure it is turning off.

No cable linkage all is free with no hang ups. Spent some more time playing with it and with the choke plate closed part way fast idle the only way I can get it to run, when I open the choke it dies.

I've only done carb tuning on Harleys before but it sounds like your jets are way off. If you back off the idle screw so that the butterflies are closing and it is choking out, does it smell like it is running too rich? I would try playing with the jets when it is close to choking out and see if you can determine which direction you should be going but my thought would be you are running rich and possibly flooding the engine with too much fuel. Might explain a fast idle as well?

check the secondary throttle plate adjustment. Should be set so you are 1/4 turn past bottomed out. my opinion is a vacuum leak. Where did you get the rebuild kit? Did you match all gaskets that you replaced.
